Is there a difference between being self obsessed and striving to reach self improvement? Obviously, the difference exists and it is huge, as the self-obsessed people make unethical selfish actions that could harm other people. It is necessary to learn more about where the limits are and how to not become unpopular with everyone who knows us.
Most of us would like to feel self confident all the time. Some people do. If we look around we can even spot people that were born with very high and healthy self esteem. This is remarkable. Whilst most of us need to work hard on self improvement I have always admired, secretly sometimes, how healthy some peoples nervous systems can be. It is as if... well, it is as if some people never ever doubt what they are doing or saying. Thankfully the rest of us can go head with some quality improvements on ourselves!
People can reach high level of personal growth and self confidence through various ways. They may either choose a personal coach or do it by themselves. Phsyco therapy was the only option a few years ago, but today people realize they cannot live constantly with their past. We cannot be self confident if we blame someone else. All we need to do is to take our responsibility and forget about the Freud's theories. A lot of options arise since his times - marathon running, cognitive behavioral therapy, meditation, personal coaching, neuro linguistic programs, etc. Many of them work fine and I personally tried some of them.
The self improvment program works equally well for people of any age. The desire for self improvment often starts when a person is a teenager, but it may appear later during the midlife crisis. Regardless of the age or reason, everyone can do something that can help them improve their self esteem, before it is too late. It seems both dreadful and funny to be 90 plus years old and still suffer from low self esteem. It has not to be that way. So, it is important to learn how to obtain healthy personal growth, which is quite different from self admiration or self obsession.
People today find some strange ways to improve their self esteem. One such method is showing their photos on Facebook or other similar places and to wait for peoples admiration. It is quite easy to do that, as the iPhone-self-portrait-camera does it for a few seconds. You do not have to pay a fortune for a self portrait as people did a few centuries ago. But the big question is whether this could be call healthy self esteem or not?
