Addiction Recovery: Steps to Success

Addiction recovery is a process. It does not just start and end overnight. There are several steps that must be taken in order for a patient to find success in recovery. But, at the end of the road lies liberty from addiction.

The following are general steps that an individual must take in order to undergo a successful addiction recovery:

Recognition and Acceptance

First of all, the addict must recognize that there is an addiction; he or she must accept that his or her life is ruled by a compulsive behavior or addiction. If the individual cannot or does not choose to recognize and accept that there is an addiction, an intervention by a friend or family member may be necessary. This step to begin recovery is essential and may save the life of your friend or loved one.

Desire and Determination

Once the addict has come to accept that he or she has an addiction, it becomes a matter of heart and mind. The individual must have the desire to let go of his or her addiction and go through the steps toward addiction recovery, and the determination, perseverance and resolve to make it happen. Addiction recovery is a road full of twists and turns, and it is a difficult road to walk. The addict must find it within themselves to continue on through the process.

Family Support and Encouragement

As addiction recovery treatment begins, or even when the individual decides to take the steps toward addiction recovery, it is critical that he or she feel the support and love of family and friends. Without encouragement and solace the patient may lose the desire and determination to continue on through the arduous process of addiction recovery. But, knowing that there are people out there who are proud of them will give patients the encouragement necessary to move on through the treatment program.

Detox

A medical detox may be needed for those suffering from drug and alcohol addictions. This would occur at the beginning of the addiction treatment to remove unwanted, unhealthy chemicals from the body.

Treatment and Therapy

Once the detox has been performed, if one is needed, treatment and therapy can begin. Addiction treatment usually includes group therapy sessions, individual therapy meetings, skill building activities, family therapy, daily 12-step meetings, aftercare planning and more.

Support Groups and Relapse Prevention

Addiction recovery does not just end when the treatment program has finished. Recovery is a lifelong decision to remain free. Support groups, 12-step meetings and remaining in contact with the treatment center staff and therapists are great ways to stay on track after treatment. The six steps may vary from program to program, but in most cases these will be the steps necessary to achieve success during addiction recovery.

The $30,000 Gold Watch

Recently I struggled with an inspired idea. I'll share the personal story with you here as it illustrates how the Law of Attraction actually works. If this pushes any buttons in you, use that as an opportunity to get clear of any limiting beliefs you may have about abundance. Those "buttons" in you are restricting beliefs currently wired in your brain. You can change them. This is your chance to experience a miracle.

Here goes:

Years ago I wrote about buying a $700 gold cigar lighter. (You can see the gold lighter and hear the story on the free DVD that comes with the hardcover version of my book, Attract Money Now.)

The lighter became a teaching tool to help people experience their limitations about money and deservingness, and to release them. After all, it's not about the lighter. The lighter is just a lighter. It's more about what the lighter (and the price of it) triggers in you.

With that in mind, let me tell you the following story…

A month or so ago I ordered an expensive ($10k) watch for myself. It's a limited-edition Spyker inspired collectible Swiss timepiece, made out of turned steel and French Bouveret hand-stitched leather. It's designed to replicate aspects of the Spyker car. It was engraved with my name on the back, and my Spyker car production number (174) on the side. It arrived, I put it on, and I've been loving it ever since.

The people who sold the watch to me (Expression d'Artistes) wisely kept sending me magazine reviews of their watches. That's good marketing. It prevented any buyer's remorse, and it kept their products top level in my mind.

But every time they sent a review, another watch kept leaping out from the photos. This other one is black French leather, pink 18-k gold with a black dial. The first time I saw a picture of it, I loved it. But I didn't do anything about it.

The second time I saw the watch, I decided that it is calling me for a reason.

So I asked how much it cost.

Turns out it is over $30,000.

I paused to take that in.

Thirty thousand dollars for a watch?

I know luxury watches can sell for many times that amount, but still.

I know that a gold watch can be a sound investment, but still.

The world's most expensive watch may be the Big Bang Chronograph, which sells for $1,000,000. Yes, one million dollars. It's practically nothing but diamonds.

But still.

Even so, the $30,000 Spyker gold watch seemed really expensive to me, and even for me.

But I couldn't stop thinking about that watch.

Every time I thought of it, I wanted it.

The thing is, it was triggering my wealth comfort zone. I was hitting my own ceiling of deservingness, something I talk about in such books as Attract Money Now.

I really wrestled with this.

I did clearing and cleaning.

One memory that surfaced was this: It was decades ago. My late wife was cooking dinner. She picked up a jar of tomato sauce but dropped it. It shattered. And we didn't have the two dollars to buy another one!

Memories like that one needed erased.

So I kept clearing.

I kept hoping the desire for the watch would leave me alone.

But it didn't.

So here's where I had to get ruthlessly honest with myself.

I reminded myself that I teach people one of the seven steps in Attract Money Now is Prosperous Purchasing. I was even reminded of how I explained this on national television last year when I was visiting a friend the other day and she played that very TV show for me. (She wanted me to see how good I looked on her giant flat-screen TV monitor. I was impressed.)

There I was, telling people, "When the desire is there, and the money is there, buy the thing!"

I said it's a way to experience and anchor abundance. I also said don't buy anything if it will put you in debt or make you feel desperate. Otherwise, if the passion is there, the product or service is there, and the money is there, buy!

Was I going to take my own advice or not?

Nope.

Not yet.

Then I remembered another key statement I teach people: that when you change your beliefs about scarcity to abundance, then spending money and giving money become ways to attract money.

That's worth repeating:

Did I believe what I teach or not?

And with my new audio program coming out tomorrow about abundance, called The Abundance Paradigm, with me declaring you can easily shift from the scarcity mindset to the abundance mindset, was I coming from scarcity or abundance when considering buying the watch?

Well? After doing just one of the advanced clearing processes in my new program, I finally got clear and decided to order the $30,000 watch.

Ah, life is so much better once you make the decision you wanted to make all along. :)

And here's where the magic appeared.

The very day I wired the deposit for the watch, I received a royalty check from one of my publishers.

I was surprised as it seemed early. I was even more surprised when I opened the envelope and saw the amount.

It was the largest royalty check I had ever received -- ever!

Buying the watch would be a tiny percentage of the check.

Clearly letting go of my scarcity beliefs, following my own advice, and staying in the flow of life rewarded me for my action.

Do you see how this works?

Inspiration was asking me to do something: get that gold watch.

Clearing was helping me dissolve the beliefs I had about taking action: you deserve what you desire.

Action caused me to complete the inspiration to get the watch as well as to attract more than enough money to pay for it: action leads to attraction.

The formula looks like this:

Inspiration + Clearing + Action = Magic!

Remember, this post isn't about a $30,000 gold watch.

Not any more than the $700 gold lighter was about the lighter.

Instead, it's about following your passion, honoring your inspirations, and letting what comes up be a personal development tool to raise your vibration and your deservingness level.

Everything that occurs in your life is designed to help you to awaken.

I'm telling you, there's real magic and miracles in the world.

All leaders need to learn how to communicate precisely and succinctly. Make a special effort to ensure that your team has all the necessary information to complete the tasks assigned to it, including deadlines. Check in on a regular basis to assure the project is on track.


Leaders need to know the difference between what they have in mind and what needs to be done. These are often mixed up in a leader's mind. If you're thinking about something important to do be done, complete it so that you're free to move on to completing something else. Write it down so you won't get too distracted from what you're currently doing.


You should be a good example to the people that work for you. Your title is just a bunch of words, so do not think this makes you special. Be kind and you will get kindness in return. Hypocrisy is always shunned upon. Try being a person that other people are likely to respect.


To help improve your leadership abilities, you need to use all available information. Being a leader will allow you to have more opportunities. Stay confident and you'll be a good leader in no time.

Use These Great Tips To Improve Yourself

Self help is an essential part of life planning, but understanding it and applying it to your own life, can be tricky. There are so many things you can do and plan for to make changes to your life to live it better. Here are some steps you can take to ensure you accomplish that.

Building upon your goals and aspirations to become a better person or even to achieve and conquer new things, you must remain educated and keep your knowledge base expanding. This can be accomplished through tradition formal education or non-conventional methods. By stimulating your mind and body, you can be one step closer to becoming the person you want to be.

Whether you are spiritual, religious, or atheist, look for a higher force that can offer you guidance as you think about yourself, your identity, and your goals for who you want to be. Your higher power need not be a specific deity; the collective writing and stories of mankind can serve as a good example of something that is larger than yourself. You may find that exploring scriptures, literature, or proverbs can help you create yourself.

When seeking to develop your personality it is key that you seek purity as opposed to seeking eloquence. In other words, seek wisdom that is both pure and powerful. Learn how to discern the difference between truth and wickedness. Once you distinguish the difference between these two you will gain both understanding and insight.

Secret Russia Lesson: Where's Money Come From?

Russia still owes me money.

Well, not Russia, but a couple of Russians.

It's been a year since I was in Russia for an intense, relentless and unforgiving schedule of speaking gigs, seminars, news interviews, press conferences, autograph parties, movie filming, television interviewing, Q & A sessions with the public, private interviews, and more. Except for help with the seminar, I had to do everything alone. It was exhausting. Good thing I was paid well.

Oh.

Wait.

I wasn't paid.

It's been a year and I still haven't been fully paid for that trip.

When I ask the Russian promoters where my money is, they tell me to ask their partners. When I ask them, they say it's not their issue. And so it goes.

When I was in Russia, I was told Russians don't take personal responsibility for anything. They even have a popular book titled Who's Guilty? Their national pastime is pointing the blame elsewhere.

This isn't unique to Russia, of course. Virtually everyone has issues with taking personal responsibility. Russia just happens to be the trigger for this blog post.

Given the above, it shouldn't surprise me or anyone else that I still haven't been paid for my adventures in Russia. I've forgiven them and (almost) forgotten about the deal. The only reason it surfaced recently is they invited me to return to Russia and speak again. (!)

I'm passing.

But this raises a curious question: when someone owes you money, what do you do?

From a Law of Attraction perspective, I got a match to my unconscious fears. At the time, I didn't trust Russia. It was part of my childhood programming (1953 on) to fear them. When I was a child in the sixties, Russia was the enemy. I learned not to trust them. So I created an outer circumstance to match my inner conviction.

But now that I've cleared the beliefs in my unconscious about Russia, what do I do about them owing me money?

From a more Divine view of life (as expressed in my upcoming new audio program The Abundance Paradigm), the money they owe me will come to me - but maybe not from them.

In other words, a big mistake is needing a debt to be paid by the person who owes it. I wrote about this in my book The Attractor Factor. The money doesn't need to come from that source. If you think it does, you're setting yourself up for a battle with egos and disappointment.

This is not to say you shouldn't ask for the money (as I did with Russia) but it is to say you live in an abundant universe and the money can come from someplace or someone else. Don't waste your time letting a debt eat up your well-being.

In reality, money doesn't come from people, it comes through them.

Get that: Money doesn't come from people, it comes through people.

Life is a lot smoother and richer when you forgive and forget. After all, when you hold resentment, the only person that is hurt is you. The emotional pain is in you.

Again, don't think this post is about Russia. It isn't.

I found Russia fascinating and met people there I fell in love with and long to see again. I just won't go back under the same circumstances. I've learned and moved on.

You can, too.

As David Hawkins says in his book, Transcending the Levels of Consciousness, "In the spiritual world the basic dictum is, 'There are no justified resentments'."

The more you release resentment and forgive, the faster you can Attract Money Now.

PS -- Of course, if you owe money, pay it. Don't fudge on your responsibilities by thinking the person you owe can get that money from somebody else. Doing so sends a message to the Universe, and your own unconscious mind, that you aren't to be trusted. You can sabotage all your intentions by not honoring one agreement with yourself or another. In short, pay your debts. It'll help you attract money now.

Stressed? - It's Time to Unplug and Reap the Benefits

Is it time for you to unplug? I mean really unplug.

Stop multi-tasking, going, and doing for awhile; just breathe and be.

We live in a world of ever growing technology which is absolutely wonderful, but it is important to remember to return to the basics now and then.

Make time to enjoy your home, or take in the scenery, or go on an outing, or a vacation, or spend time with family and friends.

Sit down and a read a book, not just for a couple of hours, but for a whole day. Or, do some creative writing, or journal, or go for a hike, bike ride, or trip.

Remember, turn off ALL your devices - cell phone, computer, T.V., and IPod.

Disconnect for at least ONE day from all the texting, social media, emailing, surfing the net, watching programs, listening to music, working, and doing. Don't worry; it will all be there when you return.

Reconnect with nature and with your friends and family, but more importantly, with yourself.

Don't interrupt your precious time by checking your watch, or your messages, posts, emails, stocks, and so forth.

Instead, check in with yourself and make time for what's truly important and benefits you.

Can you do it? Can you unplug for at least one day and stick to it? You can, if you want to.

Sometimes in our busy lives it can be difficult to turn off everything and return to simplicity.

You, your friends and your family, deserve your full and undivided attention.

Sit back, shape shift with the clouds, or watch a thunderstorm roll in, or go for a walk without music, or enjoy idle time in nature or in the company of others where you aren't having to do anything else.

Really enjoy the quality, not quantity, of time you are sharing in whatever and with whomever you are spending your time.

The benefits of unplugging are phenomenal!

You rest.

You recharge.

You reunite.

You reconnect.

You replenish.

You relax.

You are, for a moment in time, just being.

You aren't doing, fixing, or controlling. You are mindful and hopefully benefiting from unwinding and unplugging rather than having a mind full of things other than what you are doing right in this very moment.

How can disengaging from your busy schedule and devices, and re-engaging with yourself, nature, friends, family, God (whatever you believe this to be), not be of benefit to you, your relationships, and your life?

You have nothing to lose and so much to gain from unplugging from all that you do, and plugging back into the beauty, simplicity, abundance and wholeness of what life and people really have to offer you.

Ask yourself, "Is it time to unplug and reap the benefits?"

Don't wait until you are overwhelmed, burnt out, sick, tired, unhappy, or unfulfilled, to tap into some well deserved time for you to plug back into what's really of the essence.

You are worth every minute of your complete attention, and so are your family and friends.

Explore, have fun, rest, relax, sleep, read, walk, listen, and enjoy the simple things in life.

You deserve a break, some down time to disconnect, and then reconnect with what and whom are really important.
