Becoming Yourself - A Work In Progress

Sooner or later we must face the truth: we were born into a world that is at times unjust and imperfect.

If we are to face life with any real degree of emotional and mental stability, then we will need to accept this.

We may begin our journey with the highest ideals, believing we really can change the world--and, indeed, every one of us can change the world, though only some of us will--but we will never change the way that life is.

Life will continue to be life, despite our desires and remonstrations. It has no need to be just or fair, and it does not necessarily need to always make sense. All it has to do is all that it can do: It has to be itself. To quote the founder of Taoism, Lao Tzu, what we really have to do is to 'let reality be reality'.

This is true, also, as it applies to each of us: We must allow ourselves to be ourselves.

Discovering who this self is, or more correctly, who these selves are - because each person is a composite of many different aspects - is a large part of becoming authentic and real.

When we allow ourselves to accept this, when we end our ceaseless demand that life be other than it is, and that we be something other than we are, then we can cease our frantic struggle and our journey through life becomes much easier.

Sometimes our ship will take us to the shores of compromise. We may not like this, but then again there is no 'Great Law' that says we have to like everything in existence. The trick, of course, lies in knowing when to compromise and when not to.

When something cannot be changed, it is senseless to keep on banging our head against it.

The lucky ones amongst us may find 'the serenity to accept the things that we cannot change, the courage to change the things that we can, and the wisdom to know the difference', to quote from Reinhold Niebuhr's Serenity Prayer, so wisely adopted by A A and other 12-Step groups.

As long as we do our very best, then we will have done all we can--even if, at times, the best we can do is to hold our head above the water and keep right on breathing. Provided we do not give up hope, our feet will always find dry land.

There is no telling just how many people we might one day help because of the difficult experiences we ourselves have passed through? Although we may not see it at the time, nothing need ever really be wasted. Everything has its value.

Like so many of our problems, our solutions lie within. In order to bring about real change, we need to work from the inside out, restoring an emotional balance that will last.

As a hypnotherapist, I believe that advanced hypnotherapy provides the most rapid and effective way to do this that there is.

Is "Bright-Sided" Critical Thinking?

Copyright (c) 2014 Joe Vitale

I saw Barbara Ehrenreich, author of the book Bright-Sided, on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart last week. Her book reveals "How the Relentless Promotion of Positive Thinking Has Undermined America." I love Jon Stewart's interviews and was keenly curious about this author and her book.

As I watched Ehrenreich on television, I got the feeling she's a wounded soul. She talked about being diagnosed with cancer and how people around her told her to just think positive. I know from having my own cancer scare a few years ago that her feelings were justified. When you've been diagnosed with the C word, you've been kicked in the gut. Smiling people don't help. I felt for her and agreed with her. Positive thinking in that dire situation isn't welcome, at least not at first.

As I often do after seeing a Jon Stewart interview, I jumped on Amazon and ordered her book. I was so curious that I paid extra for next day delivery.

It's a well written historical overview of positive thinking. It mentions all the positive thinkers you might guess, from Napoleon Hill to Joel Olsteen , Jack Canfield, Will Bowen, Bob Doyle, Rhonda Byrne; to the teachers in the movie The Secret, including me.

Turns out Ehrenreich heard me speak a few years ago at the National Speakers Association annual convention. There were more than 6,000 people there, so I never met her. But I apparently left an impression. She says in her book -

"Vitale, who looks like a slightly elongated version of Danny DeVito, offers the theme of 'inspired marketing,' and also love. "

Inspired Marketing is the title of a book I wrote with Craig Perrine, and love is the core of everything I do.

But Ehrenreich didn't say either fact.

She mentions I'm a disciple of P.T. Barnum in her book, too, but doesn't explain that's because I wrote a popular business book on him, titled There's A Customer Born Every Minute.

For a journalist, she cleverly left off statements that would justify what I, and others she mentions in her book, stand for and teach.

The message of her book seems to be to use critical thinking, not positive thinking, in order to make a difference in your life and world. For her, positive thinking can be delusional, while critical thinking can give you a well-rounded view of your choices.

I agree with her.

The thing is, most people who say they are critical thinkers are actually skeptical thinkers. They quickly dismiss concepts without trying them, or demand scientific proof for concepts that are still being researched. That, to me, is delusional.

The most powerful books I've read on the subject of critical thinking are by Steve Siebold. His books are wake-up calls to your brain. Read his book 177 Mental Toughness Secrets of the World Class, or Die Fat or Get Tough, or read his forthcoming book on mental toughness secrets of the rich.

While I prefer positive thinking over negative thinking, I have to admit that positive thinkers can sometimes be blind to reality. When I had my cancer scare, I didn't just think positive. I also took massive action. I searched for cures, I contacted all the healers and medical doctors I know, I tried every method offered to me, and I stayed persistent. The end result is a clean bill of health. But I didn't get there by putting on a happy face and sitting in a corner.

Bright-Sided is a bestselling book and Ehrenreich is getting lots of publicity for it. While she ends the book with a call to be more critical in our thinking, and to take action to get results, I suspect it will mislead many readers. Too many will jump to the conclusion that positive thinking doesn't work at all. They'll use the book to justify not being optimistic, or not choosing to feel good. They'll just keep on complaining.

My reminder to you is that you always have a choice: When confronted with any moment, you can look at it cheerfully, unhappily, or objectively. I prefer the latter but with a positive expectancy.

When I got the heath scare, I at first was walloped with the news. But then I set an intention to find a cure. I expected one because, as I say in my book The Attractor Factor, there's always a way to handle any problem. My critical thinking -- or maybe it's better called objective thinking -- included the possibility that positive action and positive expectation would be better than just unhappiness, happiness, or no action.

I appreciate critical thinking, but it's subject to delusion, too. Most of the people I know who claim to be critical thinkers still have limiting beliefs and negative attitudes they aren't even aware are in their own head. They are actually skeptical thinkers as a form of self-protection.

Combine all this with the Law of Attraction and you might see where critical/skeptical thinkers will find evidence for their beliefs, and positive thinkers will find evidence for their own beliefs. They'll simply attract what they need to support their mindsets.

So how do you get out of this maze so you can have a clear-headed, productive life?

For me, the fastest thing that helps you get mentally clear is having the right coach. I know I've said it before but it needs said again: Every high achiever I know has a coach in their area of expertise. The coach can help them see their thinking patterns. The coach can help them stay accountable. The coach can help them achieve the results they want.

If having a coach is part of what Ehrenreich condemns as something that has "undermined America", then I have to disagree with her. In fact, I'd go so far as to suggest she get a coach to help her unravel her own thinking about "Bright-Sided" being negative. It could also help her heal her psychic wounds.

But as she openly says, it's "reckless optimism" that bothers her the most. With that in mind, I suggest she's correct. You don't want to be recklessly optimistic, but practically optimistic.

In other words, choose what you want, have an optimistic expectancy about the results, take action to attract it, and monitor your progress for feedback and course changes. That's how you make practical use of the Law of Attraction.

That's not being "Bright-Sided", that's being smart.

Finally, decades ago I had a landlord who made fun of me for reading success literature, such as positive thinking books.

I was struggling, broke and unknown at the time. I was paying him two hundred dollars a month to live in a dumpy little room in his house. I didn't look like I was going anywhere in life.

He caught me reading a Norman Vincent Peale book (probably Enthusiasm Makes the Difference) and said, "You believe that shit?"

"I sure do," I said.

While at the time he questioned me I had no evidence for any future success, and any critical thinking person could have dismissed me as a dreamer, today I'm wealthy and well known.

Was it because I read positive thinking books?

Was it because I chose to be "bright-sided" about life?

Was it because I took massive action and kept a positive expectancy about my future?

What do you think?

Lifestyle Wellness Solutions For Personal Growth And Healthy Change

Lifestyle experts say that most of us are content to stay safely within the confines of the status quo. However, people want to keep doing <a href="http://www.myspashop.com/shopping/health-nutrition-and-fitness.html?world=shopping">wellness solutions</a> what's familiar because they know where that goes. Our natural inclination is to want the ability to take charge of our journey through living. There are many kinds of fears that people cope with in the prospect of change that include the fear of failure and fear of something horrible happening. People resist change, even if what they're currently doing isn't working, because the unknown is scarier.

Research suggests that optimists who are receptive to change are not only happier but also healthier, mentally and physically. Change resisters and pessimistic people have trouble dealing with stress, get sick more frequently, and are more likely to suffer from depression. "It's a negative cycle: perceiving change as something to be feared leaves people stuck in an unhealthy situation, which can then lead to depression, which in turn makes change feel more frightening," says Maryann Troiani, psychologist and coauthor of "Spontaneous Optimism."

Finding ways to shake things up and carve new paths will guide you towards a happier and healthier you. Read on for tips on how to break out of the cycle of stagnation with do it your self <a href="http://www.myspashop.com/passions.html?world=passions">home spa treatments</a>.

Seize the Situation Ready to be a change maker? Here's how to get in the game, If you're waiting for the perfect moment to make a change, don't bother, experts say. There is no such thing. "If there were, you would've already done it," Jacobs points out.

Write down the answer to each of the following questions before moving on to the next one: What do I want in my life right now that is missing? How would I feel in five years if I didn't have this in my life? Why haven't I made this change already?

Start small to avoid feeling overwhelmed and anxious. Want a change in career, but not ready to leave your job? Take a class to find out of the new field is a good fit. Testing the waters will make you feel informed, which will motivate you to continue.

Make a Plan People want change to be quick and easy, but it is a process. You need a plan to guide you. Write down your goal and be as specific as possible. Make two lists: one detailing the steps you'll have to take to reach your objective; the other listing the obstacles you're likely to run into and how you're going to deal with each one.

Meeting Kevin Trudeau

Copyright (c) 2014 Joe Vitale

Decades ago I bought Kevin Trudeau's Mega-Memory course. I don't remember where it is (ha ha) but I remember liking it.

Not long ago I bought his bestselling books, from Natural Cures They Don't Want You to Know About to The Weight Loss Cure.

I've seen him on infomercials and have friends who know him. But I never thought I'd meet him.

I did.

And it was unforgettable.

Kevin and his young bride met me for dinner last night in Austin, Texas. He surprised me by being early. Most people are late for meetings. Not Kevin. I liked that quality in him, as I'm usually early for meetings, too.

Kevin looks much younger and thinner than his recent infomercials and photos reflect. He looked in his thirties, though I know he's 46. I did a double-take when he walked through the door. But he recognized me and waved. I liked that he remembered what I looked like from my online pics.

He and his wife met me at the bar, where I had been waiting (since I was early). When I told him I had been drinking 25 year old MaCallan scotch, he smiled and said it was his favorite.

I told him I knew that. I then handed him a rare cigar from a little island not far from Miami. He seemed really surprised. That's when I explained we have mutual friends, who tipped me at what he likes. Our friendship deepened.

Kevin's wife seemed starstruck. Turns out she is a big fan of all my books. And I mean all of them. They went on a shopping spree at Amazon and bought every title they could find by me.

Natalie, his wife, had lots of questions about the Law of Attraction and my writing career. She hung on my every word, as did Kevin. It was very flattering.

Kevin and I spoke about many things, from performing magic (we're both lifetime members of the Society of American Magicians), to infomercials (he had no idea of my experience with them) to network marketing to health cures to hypnotic storytelling.

I told him about my own infomercial for The Awakening Course. He asked about numbers and results, none of which I had at hand.

He said I should be on TV more. He said I am good looking, articulate, and sincere. (Thank you, Kevin.)

He advised me to consider creating an infomercial for one of my books, adding a few other books as premiums, and selling it for a low price, such as $19.95. He said to offer my Miracles Coaching as an up-sell when people called in to order.

This marketing method has helped him sell thirty million copies of his first book -- which he dictated in a week and sent to the printer with no editing or proofreading -- thirty million copies!

This guy is sharp, slick, and smart.

I'm well aware of Kevin's long term fight with the government, his prison time, his current federal restrictions, etc.

Yet the man I met is sincere, passionate, and dedicated. He is on a mission to help people get healthy and get out of debt. He's been to sixty countries in search of health cures that truly work. When he finds them, he reports on them. He's fearless about it, too.

He said cancer was usually due to stress, and usually concerns unexpressed grief. He said methods such as Roger Callahan's tapping technique, called Thought Field Therapy, could help release the wound up psychic energy behind cancer. He added that simple relaxation audios could also help.

Kevin lost 45 pounds (in 45 days) after discovering a German method for losing weight. It's one reason why he looks so much younger these days.

He's written about all of these discoveries and insights in his various books. (He gave me a signed set of them over dinner.)

I'm really impressed with Kevin. Too many people think too small or too conservatively, including me. Kevin says he likes simple. Instead of trying to get a publisher for his books, and fighting with them to market the books, and being let down when they don't sell, he goes straight to the masses with an infomercial.

He shoots them in one take, with no script or promptings. He doesn't even care if the infomercial sells the book, as he knows the infomercial will cause people to go into stores and ask for the book. He can then sell his book to retailers.

The guy is just brilliant.

Natalie noticed my watch. It's a hand painted car. I have a watch for each of my cars. That led to talking about our car collections.

Kevin loved how I created a rolling mastermind out of my 2008 Rolls-Royce Phantom.

He also loved the story of my inventing Fit-A-Rita.

Another trait I noticed and liked in Kevin is his ability to trust life. He never sees problems. He says you never ever know what any event actually means.

What looks like bad news may actually be good news a day or so later. He accepts the news and works with it. He has a spirit that won't be conquered. When I asked him about that, he said "You can't beat me. It's impossible. The world isn't set up like that. I'm going to win. Always."

Call it ego or call it delusion, that trait of invincibility is what many great people tend to have in common.

Kevin doesn't have goals. He's more relaxed these days and goes with the flow. He has a couple general intentions, such as for his own radio show, but otherwise he enjoys life and takes it as it comes.

My three hour dinner with Kevin (which he paid for) and his beautiful wife, was inspiring. I left thinking I need to hang around Kevin Trudeau and successful people like him more often.

He stretched my thinking, challenged my thinking, and enriched my thinking.

Who have you had dinner with recently that inspired you?

Who can you have dinner with and inspire?

PS -- The photo above is of Kevin, Natalie, and myself at our dinner at Flemings in Austin. Left click on it to enlarge it.

Who Attracted Bernie Madoff?

Copyright (c) 2014 Joe Vitale

The other day someone posted this comment:

"How did Bernie Madoff's victims manifest being wiped out of all their wealth? They weren't anticipating it&hellip;most were happy being rich, enjoying prosperity, networking up, surrounding themselves with beautiful luxurious things&hellip;they certainly thought themselves worthy and entitled to great wealth, unlike many of the rest of us mortals. So, as the economy deteriorates, and many who were making 6 figures suddenly find themselves impoverished&hellip;how did the law of attraction put them in that situation?"

I've answered questions like this numerous times and in numerous places. But since so many people are asking again, wondering what is going on in the world when people are losing their homes and their savings, I thought I'd answer one more time.

First, if you're clumsy and keep knocking things over, you don't blame the law of gravity. You try to be more aware. You try to fix the problem inside you. The Law of Attraction is the same way.

You don't blame it. It's simply the underlying principle at work. It's neutral, just like the law of gravity. The issue isn't with the Law of Attraction, it's with what you are thinking and doing to create the experiences you attract.

Second, no one knows what is in the unconscious mind of anyone, including yourself. What we get in the outer world is a reflection of what we believe in the inner world.

Most people have issues with money. We think it's bad or evil, so we aren't comfortable with it. You might manage to attract some money, but if you don't feel you deserve it, you'll find a way to get rid of it.

Who knows what the "victims" were thinking who lost their money. They might be relieved. They might see it as a new opportunity. They might be blaming others. I don't know. Neither do you. The point for you is to look at your own beliefs, and change the ones that aren't serving you.

Third, you get what you focus on. Too many people are paying attention to the mainstream media. I was trained as a journalist in the early 1970s. I know the media's job is to seek out and often even create bad news.

If you pay attention to it, you program yourself to think the world is not safe and something bad can happen to you at any time. Over time, this programming sinks into your unconscious. Before you know it, you live it out. You then become part of the bad news reported in the media. You have to break the cycle to break free.

None of this is to say you are to blame. As I say in The Awakening Course, it's not your fault, but it is your responsibility. Your job is to awaken.

You have to think and do things differently to get different results. Here are some suggestions on how to accomplish that:

1. Change your beliefs. You may need help in spotting them and replacing them, but help is available. There's everything from Miracles Coaching to my Nightinglae-conant audio program, The Missing Secret.

2. Get support. You'll accelerate your change if you get support from a positive group. That's available, too. See the Attract Miracles Community.

3. Do something different. I read a book the other day ("Think Like a Billionaire, Become a Billionaire") that had a great line in it: if you are upset about your current reality, all that means is you are not planning on changing. Do something different to get a different result.

What you do is based on what you think, so cycle through these suggestions to get into a better place.

Finally, anyone can change.

If I can survive being homeless and in poverty to reach a lifestyle today that is one of daily magic and miracles, then you can do it, too.

It all begins right here, right now.

The next move is yours.

PS -- To illustrate how little I pay attention to the mainstream news, I had to google Bernie Madoff. I had no idea who he is or was. You don't need to watch the news to have a good life. My guess is, the less you watch, the happier you'll be.

How To Fee Good In Your Own Skin

It isn't unusual for lots of people to feel down about themselves or that they aren't as important as others. The fact is, nevertheless, that no individual is ideal and there's no reason you can not feel good about yourself. Use some of the following easy methods to feel wonderful in your own skin and see the distinction it can make.

You don't have to be perfect or compare yourself with others to feel good about yourself. You can learn to see your very own beauty by concentrating on the good and playing down the negative. Before you can do that you'll want to take a serious, unbiased look at yourself. Think about the things you do well, the friends you have and actual features you're happy with about yourself. If there are things that you're comfortable with, you have a beginning point.

* Accept that you're never going to be perfect. Even ladies who invest countless dollars attempting to have the best body or ideal nose are certainly never ever satisfied. You can save yourself a fair bit of money by accentuating the positive. Assume you have magnificent, lovely eyes. Why not learn a new way to use make-up to draw attention to your eyes? You can also use make-up to make a too large nose look smaller or an uneven smile appear straight.

* There is more to beauty and feeling good in your own skin than merely looking good. You might be surprised that beauty originates between the ears. If you have a great attitude and believe you are the best you that you can be, you'll begin feeling better about yourself - perhaps even better than if you 'd just come back from a week at a spa.

* Be extravagant and get a flattering new hairstyle. Ask friends what type of hairstyle they think you 'd look good in and then go to a beauty parlor to get a new look. Don't forget to get advice from the beautician. They're trained to know what type of style is appropriate for each face shape.

* Spend some time taking care of yourself. Go on a walk with a friend or a loved one. Not only will the exercise help you physically, it will help you mentally and spiritually also. There is nothing like being out in nature breathing in fresh air and being alive. Make exercise an important part of your day and you'll start feeling much better about yourself.

* Make a decision to change your eating habits. Choose fresh fruits and vegetables as well as reducing simple carbohydrates and sweets. Cut down on the amount of food you eat and if feel the need for dessert, how about sharing it with a friend. When you start making better food choices, you'll find it can change the way you feel dramatically.

* Try not to compare yourself with others. Yes, there may be a person you work with who appears to have it all-looks,smarts,ability or wealth. However, if you really knew this person, you 'd probably find they have their own doubts about themselves and their life isn't as perfect as you think it is.

If you're not completely comfortable about the way you look you may be struggling to like yourself. Using some of these easy ways to feel good in your own skin, you can begin to make small adjustments which will greatly <a href="http://f3602an00lk9fvelufeu1b-zfu.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=SUBART">improve your life</a>. All it requires is a little will and determination to get you started toward feeling good in your own skin and enjoying your life.

Challenge Your Mindset

One of the crucial factors most successful individuals attribute to their success is their mindset. Our fears, limiting beliefs, negative thoughts, and lack of confidence can all prevent or impede us from achieving our greatest dreams. However, challenging your mindset may be the greatest achievement of your life. Here are some reasons why you want to challenge your mindset and some food for thought.

Are you afraid of change?

Many of us live and die by a job list, a schedule, goals and a strategy. When things occur that aren't arranged or prepared it tosses us for a loop. Sound familiar? Modification can in fact be, and most often is, a great opportunity. It may be an opportunity for wealth, for development or it might merely be a chance to acquire information-- when you take advantage of change you press your boundaries, you open a whole new world of possibilities and you make room for something larger in your life. Consider whether you dread change and what you can do to embrace it instead.

Do you permit yourself to think outside the box?

Development stems from believing<a href="http://2ec42czg-hqxe16ehe0huv1p78.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=SUBART"> beyond the box </a>and if you stop to take a look around you, development is incredibly lucrative. The most dramatic example might be the aircraft. Prior to the Wright bros thinking of exactly what was possible, individuals assumed air travel wasn't. What about landing on the moon? Talking on the phone with somebody halfway around the globe or talking with them on your computer system?

Now these are all technology-based developments, but there are a million services and products just waiting to be considered and used. Be sure to give yourself "what if" time. Ponder the possibilities without any restrictions. Don't think of what you have to make something possible, not initially; just think about exactly what is possible-- dream about what is possible.

Explore your restricting beliefs

Have you ever had those "I can't" thoughts? Obviously you have, all of us have. That's the easiest kind of restricting belief to acknowledge and remove. Now, whenever you think, state or feel that you can not, stop yourself and think, feel and say "I can." Other limiting beliefs are harder to recognize. We're talking about those beliefs you've grown up with that permeate your life, though they might not be true.

For instance, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer is a familiar saying amongst some families, however is it really true? Is it true for you? Naturally if you're rich, you're most likely believing, "I hope so!" The point is to recognize the beliefs you have and to examine them to see if they're real and if they're limiting you from being and accomplishing all that you can. If they are, discover how you can alter that belief into an empowering one that supports you and your objectives. They say that you can alter your reality and it starts with your ideas and beliefs.

Understand that your thoughts are 100 % under your control

There's an amazing sense of empowerment when you recognize that you can manage your ideas. It can suggest the end of adverse self-talk, closed mindset, and self-doubt. Naturally, it takes time to recognize all of the limiting thoughts and discover how to change your mindset, but it is an effort that is well worth the time and energy. You can control how you perceive events, how you react to challenges, and how you associate with others. When you're able to change your mindset and regulate your thoughts, a universe of favorable circumstances will open up for you.

Mindset is an effective thing. It can lead us astray, drive us from our strongest hopes and desires or help us fulfill our greatest dreams. Taking time to cultivate a <a href="http://2ec42czg-hqxe16ehe0huv1p78.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=SUBART">favorable mindset</a> can alter your life. Starting today, challenge your mindset.

Men Can Now Learn How to Keep Their Partner Happy

Want to know how to satisfy your partner is every way? Most women may not admit it to men or say it publicly, but being able to satisfy your partner is extremely important and vital for any satisfying relationship. The problem is that most men simply aren't very good at it and need some guidance.

There are two main problems that many relationships tend to face. The first one is typically in relation to money and marital money problems. Unfortunately, there is only so much you can do about this one. The second most common issues that a lot of relationships tend to face relates to bedroom compatibility. In terms of compatibility it is certainly possible that two people care for each other and love each other very much, but the private chemistry simply isn't there. In some situations this may not be able to be fixed 100% and the relationship may need to run its course or make a change. Fortunately, in many situations the chemistry and compatibility can be improved.

Everyone loves being pleased by their partner. Women are no exception to this quality, the difference is that women are much more quiet and much less open about their desires. Although many women may not say so publicly and may not say so to men, they really do enjoy receiving pleasure. In fact, it is one of those things that many women think is very important in a healthy relationship and it is also a topic that is often discussed among their girlfriends.

Many men simply are not good at providing the pleasure that the women deserves and is looking for. Although most men expect and want to receive pleasure from their partner, the reverse is not always true. Men who haven't already will likely need to provide some sort of service to their partner at some stage of their relationship and it is important to be able to do so successfully when the time does come.

Getting good at this craft isnt necessarily easy, but it is a skill that can be learned. You will want to have at least a background knowledge of what you're doing down there and getting some additional information beyond that to improve on your current routine is certainly a worthy goal. There are a lot of resources online that can be beneficial to learning how to craft this art, as it is something that you now hopefully realize is incredibly important.

The King's Elephant

An old story tells about a king who lived with his three faithful servants in a large castle. One day he heard a story about this wonderful yet mysterious beast that his subjects referred to as an elephant. Having never seen such a creature himself, he was intrigued and eager to learn more.

The king's three most loyal servants were blind, but he put more faith in them than anyone else. Since the king could not leave the castle himself, he sent these men out into the forest so that they might investigate this mythic beast and report back to him with all the details.

Trudging his way to the edge of the kingdom, the first blind man came upon a town where an elephant was said to be kept, and had the villagers lead him to it. He put his hands on the incredible specimen, feeling all around its huge legs. Noting the wide width and bumpy texture, he hustled back to the castle and told the king that an elephant was basically a moving, living tree.

Upon locating an elephant, the second blind was surprised by a long, tubular thing that seemed to tickle him. He explored this curious appendage as it slithered up and down his body, seeming to give him wet kisses. With this experience in hand, he returned to the king and reported that an elephant is like a large snake that had the head of a leech.

The third blind man was directed towards the elephant when he bumped into an object that was rock hard, yet with a point on the end like a spear. He was taken back by the elephant's smelly breath which hit him fully in his face as he felt the creatures' tusks. After further exploration he was sure he possessed the answer, and returned to the castle to tell the king that an elephant is merely a large walrus that has moved onto land.

Naturally, the king was now more confused than before having been given such conflicting reports on the nature of an elephant. His three loyal advisors had failed him for the first time. He concluded that the only way to satisfy his curiosity was to see the animal for himself.

So once more his servants were sent out from the castle, only this time with some money and an official decree demanding that an elephant be brought back to the castle for inspection. Upon laying eyes on an elephant for the first time, the bigger picture became clear, and he now understood how each blind man had formed their conclusions.

The elephant that's in the room.

This parable is meant to teach us about perception. Each of us, in a way, is exactly like the blind men in the story: handicapped not by a lack of vision, but by inadequate knowledge.

When we form our views of the world, each of us is drawing from a limited amount of information, a limited set of experiences. It doesn't matter how smart or sophisticated you think you are, the reality is that even the most brilliant among us are severely handicapped by the knowledge we lack or the experiences we've never had. As a result, we stumble about this world as crippled as a blind man who is trying to formulate the whole picture after having observed only a fraction of its parts.

None of the blind advisers in this story were incorrect in what they observed. However, none of them had collected enough information to create a more accurate assessment. The first blind man was not wrong to describe parts of an elephant as being like the base of a tree. The other was correct to describe his experience as being like an encounter with a friendly snake. The last could be forgiven for thinking he was dealing with a walrus.

All had observed the same thing, and yet by experiencing different aspects of it, each came away with a completely different understanding of what they had encountered. Our own perceptions are working in equally profound ways in our world today.

Whenever the perceptions of others are different from our own, it's generally not a matter of one person being entirely wrong and the other entirely right. Instead, it's almost certain that each viewpoint has merit, but that each observation by itself is also hopelessly incomplete. Since each person is forming their world view from a unique repertoire of knowledge and experiences, each can view the same thing quite differently.

It's only when we combine these perspectives that we can obtain a fuller picture of the truth. If everyone tried to do this more often, particularly when it comes to those people or viewpoints that may initially seem so different from our own, we'd all come away with a more accurate understanding of the way our world really is.

Managing Anxiety With These Essential Steps

Have you ever found yourself in a situation that brought on sweats, rapid heartbeat and shortness of breath? You probably weren't having a heart attack but an anxiety attack. If you struggle with anxiety disorders, learning to manage it is the first step to getting over it.

Anxiety is described as <a href="http://6efa26nyxisao46hggwaquewfx.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=SUBART">excessive reactions</a> to fearful situations. When someone follows you into a dark alley, those anxious feelings of a racing heartbeat and sweaty palms succumbs to heightened senses and a rush of adrenalin that can save your life. This is the fight or flight syndrome.

In the case of regular anxiety, the fearful feelings are dread of a specific situation and not the situation itself. Getting caught in traffic can cause an anxiety attack over what may occur when you get to work late. Beginning a new job may bring on anxiety attacks for some people. You don't know anyone and fear of that unknown can send you into a panic.

Everybody experiences panic or anxiety in small ways. Like the fight or flight example, it can save your life. In new situations, we get panicky but when the outcome we fear fails to materialize, the anxiety stops. For someone with severe anxiety, this is not the case.

Each situation that brings anxiety is not life-threatening. More than likely it is an extremely taxing situation that has brought on the anxiety as a way of dealing with it. Unchecked anxiety of this type can result in depression.

If you suffer from anxiety attacks on occasion or a more frequent anxiety disorder, there are steps you can take to keep your anxiety under control.

1. See a professional. This is typically a good initial step. Self-diagnosis of any type of physical or mental condition is ill-advised and can be dangerous. A professional psychologist can help you understand your anxiety and prescribe medication or other effective strategies.

2. Get a good night's sleep. During the sleep cycle, your body repairs itself. You feel more rested after a few hours of restorative sleep, reaching the REM stage. Most people need eight hours a night which fluctuates within an hour or two each way.

3. Exercise on a consistent basis. Exercise helps you to use oxygen more effectively. It really helps when you get more oxygen to the brain. It also increases focus which may help you see answers to problems instead of simply worrying about them.

4. Meditate. Meditation should be more than reciting hymns. Yoga is an exercise that involves quieting the mind and controlling your breathing. Simple meditation such as taking 5 minutes to clear your mind everyday can work wonders in the fight against anxiety.

5. Manage the worry. When you feel your pulse start to speed up, count backwards from ten. Focus on the situation as you count. What has actually happened? Withstand the urge to read anything more into the situation.

6. Don't use alcohol. You might think that the glass of wine is relaxing your tension but alcohol is a depressant. In anxious situations you could rely too heavily on it and gain another complication in the process.

7. Find some relaxing activities. Stress can rob you of your energy. On a regular basis, do something you like such as gardening, painting, reading or listening to music.

Anxiety can come into your life at any time. It's normal. When the anxiety becomes constant you could be at risk for more serious conditions. If you feel your anxiety is starting to take over your life or increasingly causing you problems, seek qualified professional help immediately. These are some <a href="http://6efa26nyxisao46hggwaquewfx.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=SUBART">effective steps </a>for managing anxiety. No one should have to endure this dreadful situation in silence.

Time Management Tips - You Can Create Foolproof Priorities Using The 3-3-3 Exercise

Time management tips help you live effectively. But without clear priorities, you can't become who you've wanted to be. Build prioritizing skills and you strengthen your decisiveness, build confidence and maintain others' trust.

What could be more important? Using exercises like 3-3-3 on a daily basis will significantly improve your quality of life by developing your power of choice.

Why Are Clear Priorities Life-Changing?

Anytime you establish priorities, you map out the consequences you are prepared to cope with. So even small decisions shape your life in ways you can't currently imagine.

It's not simple. Prioritizing how to use your time inevitably involves letting go. Furthermore, you must make peace with what you give up. Facing the limits of how much you can squeeze into your day promotes maturity and resolve. That is so important - but it doesn't mean it's easy!

To help yourself transition to a new level of effectiveness, use this straightforward exercise

The 3-3-3 Exercise: Envision The Outcome in 3 Days, 3 Weeks, And 3 Years

Whenever you are torn between two options, take a trip into the future to clarify your priorities.

Visualize 3 Scenarios:

What will be the outcome of selecting one option over its alternative?

In 3 days? In 3 weeks? In 3 years?

You'll find this investigation most powerful if you jot down responses to each scenario. Don't think too carefully at first. Just write quickly and put down the first thing that comes to you, even if it seems inconsequential. Let your subconscious paint a picture. Take in its color and details. Your intuitive imagination contributes its own special wisdom. Once you've explored this, and only then, activate your analytical thinking. Write specific, logistical outcomes for each course of action you're considering. This will ground your overview in practical considerations. Are there monetary consequences? How are others affected?

Pros And Cons

Another approach is to list pros and cons for each option. It might be useful to give each course of action you're considering its own page. Then you can hold the lists side by side. Top each list with the pros and cons that are of prime importance to you. Follow with the next most important consideration, etc. Compare the pros and cons for each prospect and decide accordingly.

3 Is Not A Magic Number

Remember: this is your exercise. If different time spans are more appropriate to consider, by all means revise the timeline. Maybe twenty years is more pertinent. Just bear in mind that your needs and priorities may very well shift through the years. At the same time, don't commit yourself to future sacrifices that you'd do anything to avoid at present!

How You Gain By Traveling Through Time

Comparing consequences over multiple time spans gives you a richer understanding of the life you are shaping through your choices. What seems urgent at present may fade in importance, as you consider other long-range needs. Fantasizing the future can be a very powerful time tool that helps clarify your best choice for right now.

As you add to your prioritizing skills by engaging in the 3-3-3 Exercise, notice how it can compassionately guide you through the day. You keep your own best interests at heart at all times, and assume positive power over your time.

So, what priorities would you like to set in place right now?

Queer, Gay: Labels Discussed

It isn't just the average person who finds social media a great way to access the diverse amount of information surrounding any given issue - activists are learning its benefit as well. That isn't to say interactive discussions and open forums only benefit people like Anonymous, who are hell bent on using cyberspace to take down rapists, child molesters, and famous cults, but even those of us who are forced to justify our own existence as identifying individuals. In a society that is, by default, structured to normalize and advocate a certain set of heteronormative and gender binarist principles, those of us who fall outside the norm are often left with no sense of ourselves, and no tools with which to build one. The interaction of issues and web outlets is changing that.

Labeling theory is a sociological concept that talks about the way individuals self-identify and behave in relationships with the words people classify them by. For example, calling a child 'bad' often might result in them really thinking they are bad, and performing bad behavior and considering it an integral part of their identity. The same is true about words like queer, gay, and other slurs directed at LGBTQIAP+ individuals. The online discussion format is often the first and most effective place these conversations take place. It's often the first time people encounter conversations about subversion, identity theory, and theory. Queer is a slur that many people are not comfortable applying to themselves, equating it to calling themselves any other number of negative terms, while some LGBTQIAP+ individuals enjoy that the idea of reclamation - taking a term and making it their own, and transforming the negative meaning into a positive one. Without the groundwork of labelin
g theory, this activism wouldn't make sense. Saying that the LGBTQIAP+ community is "the queer community" might be convenient for the lazy, but erases the identities of individuals who do not wish to be identified by a slur. This is where most of the discussion lies.

The accessibility to the web extends to almost everyone, with that accessibility growing every day. Libraries and public spaces are constantly adding more WiFi access points, and almost every device being sold is WiFi compatible. For the first time, LGBTQIAP+ people have the opportunity to engage with one another easily despite distance and identity or cultural differences. Within the context of the online discussion forum, it becomes difficult for anyone to totally monopolize a social discussion, and easier to participate in the community-wide discourse at an entry level. One of the first issues you might come up against is this divide between liberal and radical feminist ideals, where they overlap and diverge, and how those conversations extend to the idea of labeling.
