Personal Organisation App Review : 2Do Tasks

2Do Tasks is a very simple but effective personal organizer app on iPhone,iTouch and iPad, which offers great synchronization support across Dropbox, iCal, and iCloud. The app uses Siri to add reminders, offers tabbed calendars, projects, check-lists and to-do lists, and secures your content via password protection. There's also the opportunity to drag-and-drop tasks into folders, repeat to-do actions and schedule tasks for days or weeks in advance. The app is location aware, supports voice notes and Apple's Retina display, and can back-up and restore data. You can also export to-do lists to view as an email or in a CSV file format, or to share these via Twitter or SMS.

One can create singular tasks, form a check list with items listed under a header to be checked off, or a 'Project' to further sub categorize steps or tasks, and formulate a completely customized plan/outline for the project. Creating quick tasks only takes a few taps, allowing the app to be very practical on a day-day basis. The user can also set a more comprehensive set of measures for a task. You can add a picture to a task, record a short audio clip into a task, link URLs etc.

New users might be overwhelmed by the app at first, but 2Do includes a helpful tutorial on how to get started. It does take a few minutes to figure out how everything works, but it is worth investing the time.

Creating a new to-do list is pretty easy, and the app includes a variety of options for each task. For each item on your 2Do list, you can also add notes, set a due date, tag a location, schedule an alarm, and tack on a URL or photo. You can even make an audio recording with voice notes. You can set a priority for each task, including low, medium, high, or starred. Unlike the Air To-Do app, each list is sortable by a number of criteria, including priority and due date.

2Do is even more useful because it syncs with a variety of programs, including Outlook and MobileMe (for an additional one-time fee of $2.99). You can customize a variety of sync options, including either sync on exit or sync on launch. Some other iPhone list apps require you to manually sync each time you make a change, and this is certainly more convenient. You can also backup your data to email or a separate computer. Twitter sharing is another option, but Facebook isn't included.

REVIEW

We are all busy people, and busy people have a shopping list of things to remember to do today, tomorrow, or maybe next week. What we all hope for is that we don't forget something crucial that should have been done a few days ago; an assignment, a birthday, shopping lists and all sorts of tasks. 2Do can alert the user on their iPad or iPhone via push notifications a reminder that a specific task he/she created needs to be completed when 2Do isn't running. The alert can be a sound, a message, or an email.

What sets it apart from the rest of the competition? 2Do brings one of the most beautifully designed applications right to your iPad/iPhone. It is elegantly organized and packed to the gills with features. Elegant color schemes, correctly sized UI elements, and clever use of split screens on the iPad combine to provide a seamless, stress-free user-friendly experience that encourages the iPad owner to stop procrastinating and start being more efficient.

What's unique about the app besides its drop dead gorgeous UI, is the ability to tag tasks with location. Once a task is tagged, the app will update the app icon badge once it detects that you are in close proximity of the location where the task needs to be completed! This is extremely handy if you've been meaning to go shopping for items from a specific store whenever you are in the area. You can tap on the 'NearBy' option to see what tasks you can complete from your "complete list" based on your GPS location, and where the specific tasks are located.

2Do isn't the cheapest iPhone list app, but it is one of the most stylish. This feature-packed productivity app provides everything you need to manage your daily tasks. If your to-do list is out of control, the 2Do app is definitely worth a look.

All in all, 2Do will motivate any user to get their life in order; it is great for meeting deadlines, dinner dates, and general things you would otherwise have to constantly remind yourself of. As busy people, and we can't afford to let things escape the realms of our consciousness. It's one of those apps that you must try for yourself to understand its almost priceless value, and how seamlessly it integrates into your life. A high-class phone deserves a high-class app.

Some people may balk at the price tag (in the range of $6.99 - $10), but the 2Do iPhone app is worth the money if you are serious about your to-do list. All in all, 2Do is one of the best to-do apps that you will find out there. It is easy to use, but offers a feature set that is robust enough that you don't feel you are giving anything up for simplicity. This universal app will keep your action items synchronized between multiple devices, so you don't need to worry about entering items multiple times.

Overall rating: 5 stars out of 5.

*The 2Do app is compatible with the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. It requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later.
