5 Necklaces That Make Any Outfit Bold

If you love fashion, that runs through your veins. You have an itch to show who you are through your wardrobe. And it drives you crazy to not be able to do that. If budget is holding you back, you feel kept from your natural right to be a fashionista! As a voice coach to the offspring of high profile parents, I've had to learn to look elegant for cheap when giving singing lessons. I'm not just teaching these kids how to sing, I have to be a role model for the type of high society life their parents want them to have. So, I've learned some tricks.

The basics: tops

In whatever colors you like, but definitely include black and white, get a variety of spaghetti straps, tank tops, long sleeve, and t's. Each of these tops look dressy if you pair them with more formal bottoms, but can also be totally casual when need be. However, these need to be SOLID colors. An embroidered T-shirt or one with a bold design can only be worn infrequently, so it's not worth as much money as a plain one.

The bold: necklaces

A necklace gives a top a whole new look. Add a statement necklace to a plain tank top, and it looks like it is a part of the top. Five dynamic necklaces can transform a plain top into five dynamic tops. The best part about necklaces is 3 or 4 of them will run you the price of what only one top would. So, like I said, add these to a simple top, and you basically get three or four different "tops" for the price of one.

For cheap try giant, colorful plastic beads (think Wilma Flintstone size). These glam you up immediately, and are really inexpensive, usually $14 at places like Claire's.

Ethnic necklaces are eye-catching, with their wooden beats, feathers and bright colors. These will usually be a bit pricier, maybe $15 to $30 at the right place, but that's a lot cheaper than a new top!

The upside down tiara is perfect for formal occasions. Any jewelry shop, even a Claire's, will have plenty of necklaces with this look: it's the necklace that starts wide at the neck, choker style, and tiers down getting smaller and smaller, in the shape of an upside down tiara. Get one with fake stones in it, or simply one with a complicated design that covers the whole collarbone area.

Long strings that you wrap a couple of times make the top and necklace look fused. Even super cheap but extra long strings of beads, wrapped around your neck multiple times creating a bundle look expensive.

Pearls! Just not real ones, of course. But try buying two or three fake strands of pearls, and pile them up. You'll look totally classy, and it's just a fun variation on this timeless piece.
