Making smart choices is not just a religious concept but a moral obligation; your CTR ring or "choose the right" is a reminder for you to make smart choices in life. This is preached widely in the Mormon teachings to children; it all came about in the 1970's. In this religion it is used to help young children learn about choices and their meanings; the fun logo has made the verses and teachings of Jesus easier for them to understand.
The original CTR ring had a green backing where the shield section is and the lettering on them was either made of gold or silver depending on the preferences of the bearer. In their teachings, the Mormons or rather the Latter Day Saints have strict religious beliefs and they use that in their teachings; the LDS use the CTR style rings to help them in those teachings. The concept and CTR initials originate from an actual LDS hymn and this caught on quickly and gave a new idea to the churches to incorporate it into their teachings so that everyone in the congregation could learn these important values. It is perfectly clear because in life you have the ability to choose and you should exercise that right.
You can get your own CTR rings in over 30 different languages and in many different materials and designs. Things have evolved since the 70's and you now can choose colored bands, what type of band you want, gold, silver, yellow gold, designs on the fronts only and designed rings with designs all around it, and so on. I guess after all of these years the same idea really does still hold because even now you still are able to "choose the right".
