3 Things Productive People Do

Productive people stand out because of their unusually great work ethics. They are not contented with being mediocre, they are above par.

But what most people don't realize is that not all productive people are more intelligent, more talented or more hard-working. Sometimes, their secrets lie in just being really good in organizing their life. They are able to make productive use of time, thus allowing them the privilege of working smoothly, without any problems.

So how does one become more productive? Here are a few tips.

Break down your big goals into smaller, more doable parts. Sometimes, having big dreams does not pay. Why? Because people with huge dreams have a tendency to see its achievement as too daunting, too hard to accomplish. People have the general tendency to be turned off by unrealistic objectives - with reason. When something is too hard to do, is it still worth all the time, energy and expectations we put into it? Maybe not. The trick is break up that goal into smaller, more achievable segments. This way, you slowly work towards accomplishing each small segment, be happy after being able to do so, then move on to the next. Before you know it, you will be surprised by the number of things you were able to achieve, and by how near you already are towards getting to your seemingly unachievable goal.

Eliminate all distractions. Distractions truly make your mind veer off its chosen path. When you want to finish something, then set a realistic work schedule for it. For example, give yourself one hour to work on opening and answering emails, another hour to check on the work of your staff, 2 hours to write collateral materials for marketing purposes. Stick to this schedule, and don't mind the distractions. Turn off the radio, don't mind the noisy chatter of an officemate. Stop checking on your email! Remember, once you get distracted, it takes so much more time to get back to your groove. Your mind will always wander off, thus making work very difficult.

Narrow the number of things you are involved in. The secret to this is to learn to say NO when needed. Half-heartedly committing to a dozen things and doing a mediocre job in all of them is certainly worse than committing to 4 jobs and doing excellently in all of them. Think quality over quantity. Don't worry, people will not think less of you should you ever say NO - just explain to them well why you need to beg off. They will respect you more for your courage and your commitment to excellence. The secret to doing excellently in anything, though is to give each task your undivided attention. Stop switching from one thing to another. Your concentration wanes, and you will be more likely to make mistakes. Full concentration for full satisfaction.
