Choosing The Right Concealer

There are a lot of women who still think that looking for the right shade of concealer can be confusing and daunting. There are a lot of shades to choose from and a lot of things to consider when buying. Also, it would be a complete waste of money if you choose the wrong shade of concealer. Should you go darker or lighter? How would you know if it has the right consistency for your skin? And which one could hide your undereye circles as well as rosacea on your cheeks if you have one? Allow us to help you with this. Here are a few simple and easy-to-follow tips for you.

Consistency and color are very important considerations when choosing a concealer. This is especially true if you're going to cover major undereye circles or rosacea. A concealer that can offer you major coverage would be ideal. So, how would you know or test if a concealer can do just this? According to experts, the best way to know is by testing the concealer on your skin. But not just on any area of your skin though. Instead, dab the concealer on the blue veins that are found on your wrist. If you don't have one on your wrist, maybe in other parts of your body where blue veins are visible. I have blue veins under my eyes and I usually dab the concealer there to check if it can provide good coverage.

Typically, yellow-toned products or concealers are ideal for covering dark undereye circles. But if you have dark skin, orange-based tones products would blend well with your skin. However, stay away from concealers that are either too light or too dark for your foundation. It should be one or two shades lighter instead. On the other hand, your foundation should completely or closely match your skin tone. Also, according to Bobbie Brown, you should also stay away from concealer products that have greasy or chalky formula as well as concealers that are either too pink or too white.

Testing the Color

Again, remember that your concealer should at least be a shade or two lighter than the foundation that you're using. You can test the color by applying it on your neck just under your ear. Anything that's too white will make you look like a raccoon. Always test the color as well as the consistency and tone before you purchase. You can do this in department stores and in other makeup stores such as Sephora.
