Three Incredibly Effective Ways To Meditate

No matter what your personal goals are, meditating can help you achieve them. Whether you want to become a superstar salesperson, or be able to seduce anybody at a social event, or improve your skills at martial arts, meditation can help. It's also great to eliminate stress, which is the number one underlying cause of most illnesses in society today. In short, meditation is the perfect practice for anybody who wants to get better at pretty much anything.

Why is this so? Because meditation strengthens that one thing that is crucial to human performance in all areas: Focus. Whenever you try anything, you've got to focus. Allowing your thinking to be overrun by mental chatter is the sure path to uncertainty and self destruction. Clarity of mind, on the other hand, is the most powerful way to achieve success. So now we've established that meditation is important, how do you do it?

The most common, and the oldest, method is breathing. Sit down in a comfortable position. Avoiding lying down, because you might fall asleep. Close your eyes. Breath in slowly, and count to "one" in your head. As you breath out, count to "two." Keep going up in count until you notice a thought come into your mind. For most people, you won't be able to get higher than two or three.

The point is not to see how high you can go. The point is to get better and better at noticing thoughts as they come into your mind, and then simply releasing them. For most of us, whenever a thought comes into our mind, we seize upon it, and then go round and round as that thought leads to a billion other thoughts. When you practice noticing and releasing thoughts, your focus will improve.

Another way to meditate is to watch a candle flame. You don't need to worry about your breathing or anything like that. Just dim the lights a bit, and light a candle. Stare at it. Let your eyes defocus. Focus only on the candle. If any thoughts that come into your mind, just notice them and let them go.

One more way to meditate involves another breathing technique. Only this time, you won't count. Just notice that small space when your inhale turns into an exhale. Try to make it disappear. Inhale your breath, and slowly decrease the speed of your inhale. Imagine your breath is a circle. As you inhale, you are moving up the top of the circle. Just at the very peak, your inhale turns into an exhale. There is no pausing, no jerking, no stopping. The middle of your inhale and exhale is the fastest, and the peak of your exhale and inhale is the slowest. Try to image a perfect circle in your mind that you trace round and round as you breath in and out. Again, let all thoughts that enter into your mind just pass right on through. Pretend they are tourists or something that have come by to watch the show.

When you practice these techniques, you'll find your ability to focus increasing with every day. And this means anything you try to do with skill and competence will become easier and more effective. Have fun.
