How do you define success?
In our modern material society, success often means "things." That is, we equate prosperity to having more - more stuff, property, possessions, relationships, prestige. The truth, that at times seems like a falsehood is, "having more" is what life is about. The irresistible force in every living thing desires to have more life. In our infinite universe there is no limit to life's expanse. Every person's entire experience of life is about creating, experiencing - feeling - more.
Success is not something exceptional or grandiose. Success need not be affluence in the form of money, or property, or possessions. Success is simpler than that - closer, more accessible than that - more powerful and all consuming than the trappings of the material world.
Sometimes success manifests in a smile or a nod or a fleeting gesture. Success is realizing a moment of joy in the mayhem of existence. Success is connecting despite the forces that seek to divide. Success is an impulse, an energy, a feeling, uncomplicated, effortless, and true.
Success is different things to different people. It is, however, always more, just not necessarily more stuff. Success is the fullness of life. Success is to have more life.
Every life is a life of promise. Each adventure is filled with potential. Success is recognizing that promise and fulfilling that potential - embracing the opportunity and making the most of it.
This mystery called life is simpler than we often care to believe. Life presents us with a choice in every instant. We always have options. We can choose more life or we can resist. Some options lead toward community, selflessness, joy. Some lead toward darkness, loneliness, despair. You can choose to move forward in the direction life beckons or you can hold fast and deny the opportunity before you. Sitting still, that is "resisting", is a choice. The choice is the comfort of the known or the familiarity of fear over the challenge and release of progressing, advancing, growing.
The way life really works is that despite all the alternatives, and the seeming errors, detours, and diversions, the choices that bring pleasure and those that bring pain all ultimately lead toward one end: more life.
If along your journey you find fear and pain, recognize you are being presented an opportunity to choose again - to choose a new direction, a new course, a new experience. Your individual life, like every other, is a means of growth. Your person, your being in this world, is a vehicle to contribute to the ever broadening expanse. Your life is a gift to give - give it. Choose better feelings - choose more life.
Success is your birthright, your potential, your destiny. Your opportunity to succeed is always in the moment. There is no utility in regret - the could-a, would-a, should-a are all behind you now. Choose to make the most of the opportunity you have. You succeed by loosing yourself in the joy of life - in this way you claim more. Embrace the adventure. Succeed - have more life.
