So what to talk about?

It's a question we all ask when looking for how to develop communication skills. Unfortunately, this question often pops up in situations where you need something to talk about and fast!

Memorized lines can work but much better is to improvise depending on the situation. So here's a quick technique to help you come up with appropriate conversation questions on the fly.

Conversation questions work well when you need something to talk about quick. It's a way to throw the ball in the other person's court and get them talking.

Think them up quickly by using the acronym F.O.R.M. It'll help you remember universally good topics for conversations.

F.O.R.M. stands for Family, Organizations, Recreation, Money.

Here are some examples:

Family

- So do you have any brothers or sisters?
- How's your family doing?
- Do you have any kids?
- How does your grandfather like his new porch?

Organizations

- I've been wanting to join a running group. Know any good ones?
- How have your Toastmasters speaking meetings been going?
- How do you spend your time when you're not (at work, at the bar, attending conferences, etc.)?

Recreation

- So how was this weekend? What did you do?
- Hey, what are some good movies out right now?
- Got any vacation plans this year?
- So what do you do for fun?

Money

(I have to admit, this one seems weird. But think of it this way, people are usually proud/passionate about things they've spent money on, so they'll probably want to talk about them…)

- I've been wanting to buy a new watch. Yours is nice. What kind is it?
- Wow that car is incredible! How does it handle
- What's that Orange Mocha Frapachino like? Is it really sweet?

Tips On Using F.O.R.M. in Conversations

- Don't play the interrogation game. Listen to their responses and comment on what they say in addition to asking questions. That way the conversation will flow more naturally.

- Keep in mind that these probably aren't the very first thing you'd say. At the least, a small exchange of pleasantries would likely come first, such as, "Hey, how's it going?" "Oh, pretty good. You?"

- Small talk is a good thing; it leads to more substantial talk. The examples above are useful because they heed that rule. They can actually be used in many situations. Be honest with yourself and I'll give you tips to reduce stress and create work-life balance. What are your biggest time drains? What do you dread doing? You know you must get them done. Why don't you get someone else to it?

On the home front, what are the things that you dread doing? For years, I was making a transition and slowly giving up pieces of our housecleaning to a cleaning lady--first the dusting, then the baseboards; then the bathrooms. I'm happy to report that I don't clean my house at all--personally! And don't you know, I realized something very important. I wanted to be able to write more articles and more books, and if I started cleaning, I was wasting valuable writing time.

When you get really clear about what you want and what your mission is, you are on your way to work-life balance. And women, listen up! Do you really think that having a spic-and-span bathroom floor is the legacy you are meant to leave in this world? Really, think about it! Is your legacy making sure that everything in your house is neat and clean and there is no dust?

Here's what I have to say. So what if your house is as dusty as the Pyramids at Giza?? That means you're creative, you're doing something with your intellectual capital, and you had to give up doing what was a waste of time. Remember, when you're at a potluck, you have to take something off your plate to be able to have room for something else that is delectable.

Think of it like this: To use a foodie example, what do you heap on your plate? What are the dishes you relish eating? And what, conversely, would you like spit discreetly into your napkin? Get clear on which is which. Then take the stuff you hate eating and get it off your plate so you can pile on the delectables.

Such is writing for me; I completely enjoy doing it and hours go by before I even notice. Good writing can turn into a new presentation, a new article, a new book, or even a new audio when it is re-purposed into another form. You begin to feel like your efforts are for nothing as you think of the dozens of places you already applied to who haven't gotten back to you. But, that's just not the way you should see things. While you're not hearing anything today, think about all the seeds you have planted out in the hiring world. In my experience, most hirers take at least a week and as many as a few weeks to get back to you since they have to review so many applicants. Since I have had the experience of hearing back from someone who I forgot I had even applied to weeks before, I now take comfort in knowing that any day, any of those seeds I put out there weeks ago might just come to fruition for me.

Don't be stubborn

Think you're supposed to "rough it?" Think that "hand outs" make you a wimp? Think again. Do you truly subscribe to the idea that everyone with a job just called or emailed up their employer and asked for a job without a good reference? By knowing absolutely no one in the industry, if not at the exact place of work where they applied? Yeah right. It is perfectly okay to ask for help from a friend or family member who you know has connections in the field you'd like to work in. Look, their connection could either hire someone they don't know at all who has no references, or they could hire you, who is equally as hard a worker.

Chat everyone up

When you're bummed about not finding a job, you may not feel up for going out of your house. But you'll be doing yourself a disservice if you don't. You need to be putting out there into the atmosphere that you're on the job hunt. You just can't determine when the atmosphere may answer. My friend who moved to a new city in hopes of being a voice coach realized she had no idea where to find clients or where to set up her lessons. One day at the dog park she began speaking to an elderly woman, telling her about her job hunt, and it turned out that woman's daughter was a prominent voice instructor in the area who had taught many celebrities how to sing better. The woman gave my friend her daughter's email address so the two could get in touch.

Productivity Is All About Organization

In order to save time and be productive, it doesn't help to feel as though you are drowning in work all the time. If you feel that the day is to short for you to complete all your tasks, then you need to relearn how to organize yourself in order to be more productive.

Struggling to keep your head above the water and working long hours into the night is no way to live your life, as balance in your life then becomes difficult as the scale just keeps tipping to the wrong side.

Almost everybody feels like they have this problem at one or another stage in their lives. Some people feel like they are being pulled in so many different directions that they don't know whether they are coming or going.

Here are some simple rituals to adopt to help you to organize your time better and become more productive.

1. Start by organizing each days activities into a ritual or a routine in such a way that it doesn't take any willpower to perform these tasks. Your important tasks should be done first thing each day, just like you would normally brush your teeth and eat breakfast.

2. Maintain a steady flow of energy physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. You need to refuel, just like a car would need to do. Try not to waste precious energy on avoiding work and blaming others. Design your day very intentionally and schedule important tasks first. Make sure to schedule in breaks for yourself every hour to hour and a half in order to renew your energy. Even a five minute break will work wonders. Healthy snacks will also help to refuel your energy levels.

3. Make sure to get at least eight hours of sleep each night, as this will make you feel more awake, energetic and able to accomplish more.

4. Try to do some form of exercise each day that you enjoy. Schedule it into your day, or you won't do it. For most people this is first thing in the morning. It will have a huge impact to how you feel for the rest of the day, even if initially you don't feel like doing it.

5. If any idea or task comes to mind, write it down straight away and then leave it until later. This way you can clear your mind of clutter and work on the tasks at hand without worrying about forgetting new ideas.

6. Avoid interruptions and temptations that stop you from dealing with a difficult task. Resist the urge to open your emails while you are busy with something important. Multitasking actually makes you less efficient, as you lose focus when you move between tasks and it will take 25 percent longer to get something done.

7. Plan your tomorrow the night before and put the most difficult task first when you have the most energy. Allow time for a crisis and for tasks that take longer to finish than you initially thought they would.

8. Don't be tempted to skip your lunch hour, as this helps you to relax and refuel and you will be able to focus better when you get back.

9. Structure your meetings, as otherwise an hour long meeting can drag on for two, if people move away from the topic.

Remember that human beings are designed to pulse rhythmically between spending and renewing energy, and keeping this in mind will help us to operate at our best all the time.

Life Is Serendipitous!

Is life a series of random occurrences or are the events in our life truly in sync with something greater? There is the saying that everything happens for a reason, to benefit us somehow and teach us the lessons we need to learn in order to live to our fullest potential. As part of a weekly study group, I discuss topics such as this one with the people I meet with. We study the philosophy of Vedanta together. Currently, we are reading a translation of the Bhagavad Gita by Swami Chinmayananda. He complied a series of talks directed toward the youth of India but they are actually relevant to people of every age and culture living in today's world.

In Chapter 10, Krishna, who represents the human manifestation of God explains to Arjuna, a common man, that he, or God is within everything and that life would not exist with out him. When one is conscious, one will begin to recognize this as fact. We were given "homework" which was to observe life's synchronicities.

As soon as I focused on "doing" my homework, I began to notice that every day was full of synchronicities. For example, I would think about a friend whom I haven't spoken to in a while and then sure enough, I received a phone call from them. As I drove, I noticed how in sync the traffic flow was that day. I would meditate with a friend in another state and then we would discuss what we felt. We could actually feel each others energy in similar ways. Spring is upon us now, so I am spending more time outside, just walking or sitting, immersing myself in observation. There are unlimited synchronicites and patterns in nature, like the veins of a dried leaf with our own circulation system. Plants are breathing out oxygen as we release carbon. I could go on and on with examples I experienced throughout the two weeks I tuned in.

As I notice more and more patterns and similarities it became more easy to understand the concept of Universal Energy. "We are all one!" Everything is woven together with invisible threads and everything is interdependent upon each other. It is quite a miracle! It made me feel, that, "yes, God is everywhere and in everything!"

We can get a little clouded and feel a great disconnect when we feel a sense of separation and isolation. To alleviate these feelings, we can think about how a prism reflects the sunlight, which could represent God or universal energy, into a rainbow spectrum, which could represent all our choices and points of views. The One becomes the many. And if we were to look at this process in reverse, we see that the source of the many is One. Just as a seed is full of potential and contains all aspects of the plant within it, the seed itself is an un-manifest expression of it's full potential.

We are all seeds. We have the potential to grow into full expressions of God, yet we oftentimes get caught in a cycle of the ego, the I, the me, the mine. It's like looking at half the picture with one eye closed. We forget our depth, our source, our connection. As we learn to become the witness and accept life fully without projecting our desires onto this or that and without judgement, we can begin to see the whole picture, feel whole and see those invisible threads that weave all of life together. We begin to see God everywhere! It is quite a transformational experience!

Out of all of the festivities that take place as a part of the wedding ceremony, one of the most memorable is the best man's speech at a wedding. Best man speeches can be memorable for many reasons. Stress Relief in One Word

We all get stressed when we take on too much. We live our busy lives at break neck pace with very little time for ourselves. Yet we still say yes when we're asked if we can help out at the school's charity cup cake sale or show the important client round the local sites of interest. Why is this? In reality, saying "no" can be one of the most liberating and empowering feelings that you can get. And it can also help to lower your stress levels - something we all need in these stressful times.

But how do you say "no" when someone needs your help? There may not be anyone else who can readily help, Or you may simply feel obliged to say yes. Emotional blackmail can be a powerful force. How can you say "no" without sending your stress levels sky high?

In such circumstances, the best way forward is to explain politely but firmly why you cannot do what is being asked of you. Be honest but considerate in your response. After all you do not want to offend anyone, merely do the right thing by yourself. There is no point in going along with something that you do not wish to do if it is going to make you frustrated and unhappy, and especially not if it means that you will not have time to do something else that you did want to do. There are, after all, only so many hours in the day!

Of course if you find it particularly difficult to say no, it could be because, deep down, you really feel that you are being selfish for saying no and want to say yes. Or it could be because you have not actually made up your mind about the request and are not sure what you should do. Indecision is very stressful. Make sure you consider your options and decide what you want to do as quickly as possible.

There are many reasons why you may not find it easy to say no. One might be a lack of self confidence. Low self esteem can force some people to say yes because they believe it is the only way of getting the attention they crave. They are scared that if they say no, that no-one will notice them anymore. However, constantly doing someone else's bidding and ignoring our own wants and needs is a sure way to pile on the stress.

For some people agreeing to do things when they want to say know is all about wanting to be liked. Everyone wants to be liked. It is human nature to want to please people we like and love. However, if saying "yes" means that you feel a know tightening in your stomach, then you should say "no" even if you think it will make you unpopular. The chances are, if you explain your reasons politely, it won't. Instead, you will be respected for giving a definite response in a timely fashion rather than delaying until it is too late for anyone else to be found.

However, if all else fails and you decide that you cannot say no to something, then decide to do it with good grace. There is no point half heartedly doing something because you will be miserable and your lack of enthusiasm will be noticed. Instead throw yourself into your task and be positive about it. You will make lighter work of it, the time will seem to pass more quickly and you might even enjoy yourself!

3 Tips For True Life Fulfillment

There are tons of articles teaching people how to achieve life fulfilment. Most of them speak about goals, about living in the present, or by letting go of past mistakes.

But this one is a list of the seemingly trivial things that make life truly fun to live. They are based on experience, not on theory. On feelings, not research. These simple things are things that really give one peace of mind.

Make peace with the people you offended, and reach out to those who offended you. Having an enemy is like having a thorn in your throat - the harder you try to get it out, the deeper it gets embedded. Enemies are present in your life because at one time or another, you may have said, done or acquired something which is not to the liking of someone else. Sometimes, you are unaware of it, or you just hear (or read about it on Facebook) that someone dislikes you, and decides to launch a barrage of hurtful things your way- maybe in an effort to dislodge you from your comfortable stance.

Most often, enemies are the result of having stood up for something you believed in, living your life too comfortably, too happily, too contentedly. Let's face it, not all people are happy for all the good things that happen in your life. Most feel bad, because that when comparing their lives to yours, theirs lag far behind. Rather than seek their own happiness, they enjoy putting people down, hoping that everyone around them will be equally miserable. Negative projection - and you had to be the target.

But the best way to fight this situation is to reach out and try to make peace. Oh it certainly won't be easy. You may get hurt emotionally in the process because you will put yourself in a vulnerable position. Scary? Definitely. But as with all problems, none really go away on their own - you need to seek a solution. Ask him/her what made him so mad. You'll be surprised, sometimes they won't even remember what their reasons are. But whatever they are, they do help you feel better generally. If you were not forgiven, then at least you tried to make amends. If you patched things up, you will notice how unexplainably happy you will be.

Donate to charity. If there's something that really feels good, then it must be giving until it hurts. It's easy to give when you have a lot. But to give when you have so little - that's real charity. Charity is generosity, not only of the wallet but of the spirit. And whenever you know it's right, and it feels good, you know it helps you feel fulfilled. It's exactly the type of thing that not only gives you, as the giver, fulfilment - but it also puts others in the path of their own life fulfilment as well. Charity is not just about money or material things, it may be love, attention and knowledge. Help someone out - you'll feel really giddy inside.

Love. There are so many downtrodden people in the world who have suddenly found meaning and joy to life when they finally found love. People are never meant to be alone. We were purposely brought on earth to spread that heart-tickling feeling called love. When we are in love, we see sunshine instead of darkness. Many find new meaning in life, and are encouraged to be better people. It does not matter who you love - it can be a relative, a love partner, a pet, a friend or neighbour. All these help give your life new purpose and direction, and that's something really, really good.

These three things may not really be in the more basic components to life fulfilment, but truly, they do help all of us feel much better, and help make the world a better place to be in.

Crisis Creates Unprecedented Opportunities for Women - If We Overcome the Confidence Divide

You've seen the image: a woman wearing a red bandana and rolled up blue shirt sleeves sporting a fist and exclaiming "We Can Do It". This World War II poster of "Rosie the Riveter" encouraging women to join the workforce was the epitome of a woman's strength and determination.

It was a time of deep crisis that opened unprecedented doors for millions of women that have never been shut. America experienced an amazing workforce shift that set in motion a new level of women's personal identity and business contribution. And it's happening again.

More than 6 million women became welders, electricians, mechanics, boiler makers, streetcar operators, bus drivers, chemists, physicists, journalists, secretaries, federal government workers, and more for the war effort. Fun Ways to Improve Mind Power

Whether you're becoming more forgetful as the years go on or you simply feel a need to understand things more clearly, you may be looking to improve mind power. You can achieve this goal by doing boring mental exercises every day, but why do that when you can have the save results with fun activities? Improving your thinking doesn't have to be dull and boring; in fact, it should be interesting and fun to keep your interest.

Sing in the Car

Sing out loud in the car but change up the words to a problem you are working on. Make up lyrics about a situation at work, your child's potty training or a constitutional law study group. This taps into the creative right half of your brain and gives it a workout. This exercise will help you to increase your problem solving abilities.

Learn While Driving

If you have a long commute every day, you may spend over an hour a day just sitting in the car. Take advantage of this free time and use it to learn a new subject. Find books on tape or CD that teach you a new language or talk about a complex subject such as astronomy or archaeology. You can repeat the lessons over and over until you completely understand the concepts, so difficult subjects will be easier to eventually understand.

Do Puzzles

Crossword puzzles, sodoku puzzles and even logic problems are enjoyable ways to stretch your brain. Buy some inexpensive puzzle books and keep them in the car and in your purse or backpack. Pull one out when you have a free ten minutes to take a quick mind-stretching break.

Do Yoga

Yoga has been known to help relax and free the mind, and minds free of stress work more smoothly. Find some kind of meditation or exercise program that engages your mind as well as your body. You'll find that you improve mind power when your brain is actually working at its peak performance level instead of being tied up worrying about common everyday problems. Relax and concentrate on nothing for a stress-free half hour each day.

Drink Wine

Moderate amount of wine are shown to be good for mind function. It includes antioxidants, which are good for preserving brain function. Women should consume only one glass of wine per day while men should limit their consumption to no more than two glasses. Drinking more than this can kill brain cells, reversing the process you're trying to encourage, so keep the wine drinking within moderation.

Ask Questions

Conceive of a new question each day and find out the answer. Find the reason behind sidewalk curbs, ask why vitamins have fillers, look into the relative shapes of different animals' feet. Look at the world around you and develop a curiosity about everything you see. Ask yourself questions and delve into the subjects until you find an answer. Developing a healthy curiosity can strengthen your mind, and learning effective search skills will expand your critical thinking.

The Pit of Depression - How Does It Feel?

Many people would like to assist a loved one who's battling with depression but simply don't really know what it's like, so take a short trip with me to "The Pit". Possibly it can help you to understand a little more.

Imagine ...

Picture yourself inside a dark pit, you really don't know how on earth you arrived there. You just appeared to land on a slippy slope and straight down you went. It is extremely scary, nothing seems to make any sense, and you simply cannot see anything. Thoughts bombard you from the inside, a bit like bats zooming around you in a very dark cave, you are useless, you are guilty, you're unlovable, life's of no value. You become stressed and also quickly irritated. You can't get to sleep. You're exhausted but sleep just doesn't come. Your appetite is gone and you simply can't eat. Things that you used to love hold absolutely no attraction now you are in the pit. You try to find your way out, it is such a battle, possibly death would be a welcome way out. It is very distressing and you know that you will need someone to help you get out. Yet this thought can also be distressing since it is hard to rely on anybody, you've learnt to be incredibly self-reliant, people can easily hurt. You get a grip on the edge of the pit and hope a friend will offer you a helping hand and pull you out of the pit. Someone does come along and your hopes rise. People look over the side and you notice remarks like:

- What exactly is your complaint?
- I'm disappointed, I figured that you were stronger than that.
- No-one ever said life was fair.
- Pull yourself together.
- Stop feeling sorry for yourself.
- There are lots of people far worse off than you.
- You feel yourself loosing your grasp on the edge of the pit.
- You truly have a countless number of things to be thankful for, what possible reason do you have to be down in the dumps?
- You feel you have troubles ...!
- Brighten up!
- You really need to get out more.
- Well, everybody gets depressed from time to time.
- You seldom consider anyone but yourself.
- You're just looking for people's attention.
- You don't look depressed.
- Maybe you must get some supplements, or perhaps chamomile tea for your stress and anxiety.

All these comments injure you so much, perhaps you were right in not trusting people.

Then some other people come along and hear you battling to get out of the pit. Perhaps these people are going to help. You hear these words.

- I love you, allow me to give you a hand.
- I do care for you, let's go out for a cup of coffee.
- You're not alone in this situation.
- I'm certainly not going to abandon you.
- Hey, you're definitely not crazy.
- I cannot fully grasp what you're feeling, however I will try.
- You are extremely important to me.
- Just about all I want to do right now is give you a hug and a shoulder to weep on.
- When all this has ended, I'll still be here and so will you.
- This will pass. We can easily ride it out as a team.

Love your disheartened friend. That is certainly everything they really want. Don't try and correct them up, they would fix themselves up if they were able to. Get them to a doctor if they have not already been. Take them out for a cup of coffee or a stroll and make certain they fully understand that they're well loved!

Spring Cleaning Project - 4 Steps for Clearing Out Paper Clutter

For many of us, spring is the time when a certain activity comes to mind - the annual clearing out of clutter that collects in our homes and offices. While it's easy to focus on getting rid of "stuff" clutter - actual physical things - it's important to look for ways to clear out the other types of clutter in our lives that can also get in our way. One of the big ones that I help clients get rid of is paper - we all have it, we all need to deal with it, and wouldn't it be nice if we had less of it? Here's how:

Get rid of what you don't need. In my experience, people I work with usually have been keeping far, far more documents than they need, or could ever find useful. Paper can take up a lot of space, can get messy really quickly, and can feel overwhelming when it's stacked and piled all around you. A great way to start reducing your existing paper is by setting some retention guidelines for what you want to keep and for how long. Do you really need your junior-high reports? Probably not. Last year's medical records? Quite possibly. The government's information site has some helpful retention guidelines (online at http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov/cic_text/money/keeprecords/keeprecords.htm). You can customize these guidelines for what fits your life and your retention needs.

Go electronic. So much paper comes into our lives that may be available in electronic form. For instance, a little-used feature on most computers is the ability to send and receive faxes on-screen, without even printing out a document (check your computer's instructions for how to do this). If there are documents you want the information from but don't need the paper version of, try scanning them using a tool like the Neat family of scanners (www.neatco.com).

Do you really need those bills? I'm thinking bills from cable or satellite TV, your cell phone, garbage bill, and the like. Most vendors are happy to help you go paperless - just visit the website for each vendor and sign up for paperless billing. When your bill comes due, you'll receive an email instead of a paper notice. You'll be able to pay online if you so choose, saving you stamps and checks. Less paper all around!

Stop the influx. If you're receiving a lot of junk mail, use a service like Tonic Mailstopper (http://mailstopper.tonic.com) to do the work of getting you off junk mail lists. If you get catalogs, judiciously choose which ones to receive, and which ones will get the boot. Call the numbers on each catalog that you no longer want, and ask to be taken off their list and the lists of their partners. Once you're done discarding your paper, make sure to dispose of it securely and responsibly, by shredding and/or recycling as appropriate.

3 Easy Steps To Becoming More Productive

Does procrastination constantly stop you from being productive? Do you sabotage your own efforts to get things done? Here are my three top tips to beat procrastination and improve your productivity.

Step 1. Categorize Your Tasks

The most important thing to do to increase your productivity is to write down all the things you have to do and categorize them according to urgency and importance. Urgent and important tasks are Category A. Category B tasks are important but not urgent; Category C tasks are urgent but not important ones, and Category D tasks are not urgent and not critical either. Category A tasks must be high on your daily to do list, along with the most urgent of Category C tasks and most critical of Category B tasks. Organize your list by due date then by importance. The next step is to decide when you are going to work on each of these tasks.

Step 2. Work With - Not Against - Your Strengths And Limitations

Some people are more alert in the mornings and others work better in the evenings. If you can, schedule your most challenging and creative tasks for when you are feeling most alert (Category A and Category C tasks). Leave the more routine and less mentally demanding tasks (Category D) for when you are not peak performing! This obviously will not work for everyone, depending on what you have to do, but if you are a night owl, or an early bird, try to schedule your working time accordingly.

Likewise, if you have a tendency to procrastinate and find it hard to settle to a task, admit it to yourself. Do not fritter time away pretending to work. Instead grab a timer, set it for 45 minutes and commit to doing the task in hand - and ONLY the task in hand - for the full 45 minutes. Tell yourself that 45 minutes is not very long and promise to reward yourself with a trip to the coffee machine, 10 minutes surfing the web, a personal phone call or whatever when the time is up. Keep your breaks down to 10 minutes, then set the timer for 45 minutes again and continue with your task or move onto the next one as appropriate.

Step 3. Good Enough Is Good Enough

Perfectionism is a killer. It stops you getting anything finished because you could always do it even better, But the world is not perfect and nothing you do ever will be either, So aim for Good Enough. The 80:20 rules says that 80% of everything you do will produce only 20% of the results and the other 20% will yield a massive 80% of the results. The trick is to identify the 20% of every task which will yield the 80% of results and FOCUS on those actions. Good enough is good enough. +Aim for 80%. Thinking about the 80:20 rule in everything you do will make sure you prioritize which tasks should be done first. This will speed up your decision making and make you even more productive and effective.

Put these tips into practise and you will reap the benefits of your efforts with better productivity!

Three Important Steps to Brilliant Management

Be the next in your company to introduce an innovative new approach or idea. Here are three critical steps you can take now to become more individually brilliant in your day to day:

1. Make time for personal reflection: I thought I will have hectic time this week. On Sunday I flew to Montreal. I ate dinner, had an evening meeting, and was in 3 days worth of meetings surrounded by people who demanded my attention, almost non-stop. Thereafter I took my meals and met my colleagues informally. When I finally got back to my room I washed up, prepared for bed, and lay down to read my book.

Tonight when I get home I will greet my family, feed the pets, catch up on emails, and run some errands. The rest of this week will seem like much of the same.

Nowadays in North America almost everyone is negligent about the personal reflection. We don't teach it to our kids, and we don't practice it unless we are avid meditators or yoga enthusiasts.

Making time for personal reflection is critical to successfully tapping your genius because it is the only way you will be able to do the next step of the process.

2. Clear Your Mind: Performing cleanup operation of your mind is like meditation that will create enough place in your mind so that bright spots of your ingenuity will start sparkling. Literally, it means stopping your mind from thinking, for 3 minutes or more.

This is hard. Hardly, you can do it for just 5 seconds.

Our minds are wired to "think" involuntarily whether we like it or not . Instead, it can be made to prepare for staying with the current thoughts.

It really does the cleaning of the mind from any thoughts of the past or the future. It means becoming aware of what your breathing sounds like, here and now. You must close your eyes. Become aware of what you are sitting on, who is near you, and what sounds are occurring in your present moment. Become aware of the feel of your clothes, and the temperature in the room.

Your mind may be wary about any possible change in the temperature within short time, and so you may be inclined to adjust the temperature control thermostat but it is necessary to stay focussed without allowing the mind to drift.

By clearing your mind of past and future, and being present with your thoughts, you create space. This will require for just 3 to 5 minutes only.

3. Listen to your fleeting thoughts and inklings: When you free your mind, you will you will have traces of all the thoughts about the future and the past. These will give a pleasant feeling. You are now ready for creative thinking. Just remember to come back to present in those critical 3-5 minutes.

Your job is to more actively listen to those fleeting thoughts and inklings as a source of inspiration.
