How To Make Positive Personal Changes For The New Year

Now that the holidays are over, and all the tinsel and decorations need to be put down, it's time to think about yourself, and plan for your own personal "tune up." There are things you love about yourself, and there are also things you know you must change - and the new year is the best time to make those changes.

Changing yourself completely can be challenging, but if you are constantly disappointing yourself and failing to be the person you imagine yourself being, you may need to remodel your personality and lifestyle.

Below are some ways on how you can improve yourself - in order to be a better version of you.

Write down your flaws.

Make sure to do this in writing so that it doesn't become an exercise in making yourself feel guilty by mulling over your short comings. Take pride in the fact that you want to change yourself for the better. Next to each flaw, write down why you want to change. As you are writing, make sure that the reasons you give are not because other people think you should change. If you cannot find a reason within yourself to do something, you will never succeed.

Get healthy.

No matter how well you think you eat or how much you exercise; there's always something more you can do for your body. If you haven't worked out in a while, find a sport you like and commit yourself to it at least twice a week. Or join an aerobics class or gym. Changing your diet also helps, even if you only make a couple of small changes, such as switching from regular soda to diet, or making sure you eat breakfast every day.

Vow to educate yourself and others.

This doesn't necessarily have to be a huge commitment. It can be as little as opening a news outlet daily and skimming the headlines, or as much as rigorously researching specific topics. Challenge yourself to learn something new every day about what's going on in the world, and ways that you can help change it. Since knowledge is power - pass on the knowledge! Someone's bound to thank you one day.

Make new friends.

You don't need to give up old friendships, but bringing new people into your life will give you a new outlook and help you transform your routine into something new and exciting. To meet exciting new people, try taking a class at a local learning annex, joining a gym, or attending organized meetings or outdoor clubs. New friends help you grow in ways you didn't think possible.

Vow To Make Changes for You - Not Others

How often have we been sucked into this way of thinking? You want to lose weight in order to make your partner proud of you. You want to be a doctor, just to make your parents happy. You want to get a new look, to fit in with the crowd. NOT! Change for the better - not to make others happy - but to make yourself even prouder. Never feel it necessary to impress others. Delight in your uniqueness, no matter what others say. The best way to achieve happiness is by working on your own self first. Never mind what others say. Moreover, the opinions of others should not dictate how you live your life.
