Time management tips can't help you see with new eyes - or can they? Try 3 techniques to welcome the very changes you might ordinarily brace yourself against. They can provide instant stress relief, and you can open the door to new opportunities.

There is an element of the unpredictable built into any change, of course. It's inherently destabilizing, which puts you in a state of high alert. Transitions disrupt the delicate equilibrium that you established for yourself. Even if a change is positive and, for the most part, expected, it still produces a ripple effect that impacts lots of areas of your life - some that you may not have even considered.

When it comes to change, it can be useful to consider it on two different levels:

* At the first level, you face the obvious fact of the change itself.

* The other, equally important level, is your attitude or your response to this change. Even more than the change itself, your initial response is what often defines and determines what happens next!

So, what's the best way to prepare for and welcome the changes that come your way every day?

3 Tips to Convert Stressful Change to Growth-Enhancing Challenge

Tip #1: Transform Your Auto-Response to Change.

When change does come, whether it's a circumstance you've chosen or an event beyond your control, dedicate some time to ready yourself. A good place to start is tuning into your patterns. For example, when you sense a change, do you constrict and take a defensive stance? If so, work to transform that for yourself: consciously open and welcome it. Visualize the process of softening into relaxed alertness.

If you invest time into this exercise, it will reward you richly.Your challenge is to consciously override your subjective conditioning to change. Affirm your competence, and say it aloud, as often as you need to in order to take it in. Give yourself clear and direct messages about times you have risen to the challenge of transitioning. Celebrate your power to choose. Say a strong yes to this, and see how your feelings about it are transformed!

Tip #2: Strongly Validate Your Successes.

Each time you let yourself open to a new challenge, be sure to revisit the incident and energetically acknowledge that effort. By practicing, you develop your confidence and flexibility. Giving yourself a pat on the back is always helpful, and it definitely adds to your momentum. Loyalty to yourself is a major component of confidence, and confidence gives you the staying power to be flexible.

Tip #3: Build in Flex Time.

As much as you reasonably can, build in a little extra time every day for the unexpected. Treat your time the way the Shakers used to regard their crops. They planted enough for themselves and then, always, a little extra for the marauding animals. Proactive planning and expansive vision go hand in hand. The unexpected is going to visit you every single day in small or large ways. If you build in some time to accommodate it, you're less likely to feel victimized.

As you successfully negotiate newness in your life you will find that door after door opens for you. You are always willing to grow, and the more you embrace this process the more you'll find yourself sprouting in all sorts of exciting directions!
