5 Common Reasons Why You People Don't Set Goals

When you set goals, you are putting yourself one step ahead towards achieving what you want in life. Much has been said about the power of setting goals in almost every aspect of life whether for career, business, social, finance or health reasons. And for decades, experts, gurus, authors and speakers have written and talked about its value. Different programs have been created as well to ensure people will understand its importance and actually apply it to their daily lives.

Everyone knows that they need to set goals in order to achieve their ambitions and objectives. But why then do a lot of people still fail to do so? Here are the common reasons why people don't set personal goals.

1. Skepticism or Lack of Belief

A lot of people are skeptics. They don't easily believe what they hear or what other people teach them. So, they won't just agree when someone tells them that they can achieve more than what they are currently achieving whether in business or in anything that they want just by setting goals. Such people have so many doubts in life that they even doubt if they can achieve something more than what they already have.

2. Setting the Wrong Goals

Some people set the goals that other people around them want them to set. Thus, they end up setting goals that they pretend to want for themselves when in fact they want something else. What's worse than climbing a mountain and getting to the top only to find out that you actually don't want to be there? Those people who see goals as something that are prescribed to them usually stay away from setting their own goals because they think that it's not for them to do.

3. Past Failures

Most of the times, when someone tries to do something and then fails, he/she would refuse to do it again because of the fear of being humiliated or being compared to other people who have succeeded. Some people are also afraid to aim high because of the fear of being disappointed again and again. You need to let go of previous disappointments because it will stop you from getting back on track where goal setting is a requirement.

4. Laziness and Lack of Determination

Setting and achieving goals require energy and determination. Without them, you will actually get nowhere aside from your comfort zone. Some people would say that they're too busy to aim for something else. But in reality they're just too lazy to do it.

5. Lack of Patience

People who have no patience end up spending all their money on lottery tickets rather than working hard for their retirement plan, or taking slimming pills without thinking about the diet and exercise needed to get a healthy body. The people who want instant gratification stays away from setting goals because it requires them to be patient and work hard to achieve those goals.
