Graduation the culmination of years of hard work. The excitement that comes with graduating is memorable, and graduates should take some time to celebrate. Eventually, however, graduates will need to move on to the next stage of their lives and look for a job.

Appearance Matters

At most universities, there is no dress code. Students can wear slippers to class if they want, and a shaggy beard or wild hair will not lead to problems. New graduates should keep in touch with their contacts from university and inquire about any possible job openings. There are also social functions for a variety of business fields; by attending these groups, shaking hands and exchanging phone numbers, a graduate might make contact with someone who can help him or her find a great job.

Social Media

One of the biggest draws to hiring recent graduates is their aptitude with social media and other online tools. New graduates should demonstrate their competence with social media by creating attractive social media properties to include on their resumes. In addition, it may be wise to remove information referring to politics, religion or other topics that might be deemed controversial.

Legal Issues

After graduating, it is important to read up on relevant employment law to understand one's rights in the workplace. Unethical employers might try to take advantage of graduates' inexperience to hire them at a lower rate of pay.
