In the midst of despair, it's easy to wallow in a pool of self-pity and non-stop sob stories. It's good to allow yourself a certain period of grief, but at some point, you must put a stop to the pity party and move on.
Unhappiness hits anyone. But not everyone will know how to lift themselves up when in the middle of much pain. Sad that you already are, the only way to forget is to fill your life with thoughts, events and emotions that will replace the sadness. This is the best and fastest way to get through it. It will be long and difficult, but you need to go through stages to get to your ultimate goal of happiness.
What to do when feeling down? Here are some great ways to do it.
Accept the negative feelings. This simply means that you must not escape from the sources of your unhappiness - you must accept its presence in your life. The sooner you recognize the source, the sooner you can ponder on it and think about how much you want it out of your life. To avoid any incidence of the source re-appearing, you must know what it is, to know and avoid it at its onset, should it re-appear sometime in the future for a cameo.
Solve the problem. Okay, this is the hard part. After you have recognized the source of your problem, then start banishing it from your life. If you are in despair because of credit card debt, then cut up the card, then approach the card company to ask for the best debt restructuring plan they can offer you, so that you completely banish the problem. Again, it will not be easy. This will require you to use up a good lot of your brain power - but it will certainly be worth it. DON'T ever make the mistake of ignoring the problem, or not tackling it face to face. If you do this, you will merely be postponing its solution, and remember, the longer you procrastinate on this, the longer it will lurk in the back of your mind.
Move on! Perhaps the best thing to do when unhappy is to get up and make a go on life. Why let those little things affect your inner happiness and peace? When you let sadness overcome you, you give it power over your entire being. Move on!, Do the things that make you feel great… Write, watch a movie, travel - whatever it is, leave unhappiness behind to eat its own dust.
Surround yourself with people who will make you happier. The worse thing you can do when feeling lonely is to surround yourself with people who are even more unhappy than you are. For sure, you will be feeding off each other's negativity and loneliness. Instead, look for friends who are in the midst of so much happiness that you have no choice but to be just as happy. Feed off their infectious laughter and zest for life. This way, you'll understand how much better it feels to fill your life with joy than tears.
Be grateful for whatever you have. Understand that you still have more than others. Stop feeling bad about not being able to buy your favourite pair of shoes. Instead, think of those who don't have feet. It's all a matter of perspective. When you keep on comparing yourself to others, you will never be truly happy. Try spreading your blessings around - that always leaves a really happy feeling inside your heart.
