What's On Your Worry List?

"A day of worry is more exhausting than a day of work." -John Lubbock

I'm heading out of town next week and my car is packed with stuff and things. A friend made a comment about being careful where I park in case someone should break into my car. I said, "That's not on my list." He said, "What list?" And I responded, "My worry list." I have too many other things to worry about I can't worry about that too.

All kidding aside, we all have a list of things we tend to worry about and we seem to be adding to the list on a regular basis. But most of us have our top 10 things we love to worry about. And the best part of it is; all the worrying, fretting and fearing of the outcome is a complete waste of time.

Most people typically worry about the same things i.e. money, work, relationships, children, bosses, debt, family, health, etc. But, unless you want to drive yourself crazy over people and things you can't control then it's time to put the worrying aside and start to find your faith.

If you spent as much time focused on believing in a good outcome, having faith that everything is going to work out, knowing that no matter what happens you will survive and be stronger for it, you could alleviate the burden of stress and anxiety that worry is wrapped in.

Worrying can not only affect your mood and your attitude towards life but it can take a tool on your health as well. You may think that worrying is a safety net and it will protect you from some unforeseen misfortune but since you can't predict the future; why try?

If you absolutely can't shake the worry habit at least try and think of both outcomes. Instead of filtering everything through the oh-no-what-if-this-happens viewpoint which has a negative spin attached to it, think about having a positive outcome too.

You should be concerned about some things which you take the appropriate steps in implementing the necessary changes toward your desired outcome. But on the other hand, some things are out of your control and you have to do your best and then forget the rest!

When you are struggling with control and worry remember the Serenity Prayer: God/Allah/Higher Power grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference.

Just for today, clear your list. Remove all the "what if's" and just breathe. If you insist on worrying, schedule a time to worry, give yourself 15 minutes and then let it go and enjoy the day. We all know there are no guarantees in life and we deal with life a day at a time and sometimes a minute at a time.

If you spend all of your time in Worryland you miss out on being present right here, right now. You fill your mind with fears and doubts and you may be telling yourself stories that may never come true. So shed the dread and know that everything is working out for your good.
