If you feel your ultimate goal is too hard to reach, then break down your goals into small parts and work on the achievement of each part. Celebrate each small victory. After a while, when you look back, you will be surprised with the amount of progress you've made, and how close you are to the total fulfillment of the goal. Remember that every baby steps count. It certainly is better than doing nothing at all.

Determine a deadline for accomplishment. A goal will linger on forever if you do not set a deadline. Have a clear time period for your goal. This puts a bit of pressure on the goal-setter to achieve the goal as early as he can. Make the habit of fulfilling the goal on or before the deadline - this will help you gain the discipline and perseverance needed for all the other goals you intend to accomplish in life. After one goal is done, set another - this will add meaning, purpose and spice to your life.

How Do You Feel?

Do you feel lucky, happy, positive or grateful? And if not, then what do you feel? Luck is a funny word. I've always thought of it as good fortune. According to Merriam Webster it is a force that brings good fortune or adversity. To me, bad luck is an oxymoron but regardless, being that I'm a bit Irish and with St. Patrick's Day upon us I thought it a good topic to talk about.

As a side note, did you know that the "Luck of the Irish" can be interpreted either way? Some say they were lucky and some say they were unlucky. But as always it's all about how you interpret anything that makes the difference in how you will experience it. It's the glass half full or half empty kinda thing.

So, let me ask you again: How do you feel? Many times I feel so lucky for so many reasons but believe me when I tell you there are times that I forget how truly lucky I am. I can moan and complain and whine about stuff but it's typically short lived once I come back to my senses.

This should be an excerpt from Confessions of a Positive Person! Positive people aren't supposed to feel anything but upbeat, happy, hopeful and positive, right? Well yes you would think so but that isn't always the case, even for us proclaimed positive types.

We all have our share of frustrations, heartache, disappointments and adversities too. There are days that you wish you could do over, days you wish you could entirely forget about and there are days you wish would never end. Sadly most people don't experience the latter often enough.

But, it is when these negative feelings that haunt each and every one of our lives come knocking at your front door that you have to decide whether you are going to invite them in for a very short visit or have them check in for an extended stay. Some people allow these unwanted feelings stay so long they don't know how to get them to leave.

The difference between positive and negative people is mainly one thing. It is what they think. And as you all know by now we choose what we think. And what we think about we bring about! Sure, you can get cranky, irritated and teed off, who doesn't? But what makes the biggest difference is how long you allow those kinds of feelings and emotions to hang out with you. And again...therein lies the difference.

So when I ask you how you feel, remember you choose how you are going to feel by what you choose to think about. Let me break it down in its most simplistic form.

Your beliefs about something create your thoughts about it. Your thoughts about it create how you are going to feel about it.How you feel will be how you experience it. Beliefs → Thoughts → Feelings → Experience. So if you're feeling lucky, happy, grateful or whatever it's all about what thoughts you choose to interpret whatever is going on in your life.

The last several months my mom has been very sick and I can't imagine losing her but I know that someday it is inevitable. It is something I try to avoid thinking about but the other night I got on a crying jag about it because the thought of loss was so overwhelming. I realized that this pain is just a glimpse of what I will experience when that day comes.

But I also realized that it is a part of the process called grief. And as afraid as I am about going through it I also know that I will move through it. So, no matter what is going on in your life choose how you view it. Don't be so mad about stuff you have no control over and do something about what you can control. Stop living with regrets and start to focus on your blessings. Quit living in the past and wishing things were different begin to live for today and wish for the best instead.

How you feel right this very second is all about what you are thinking. I feel lucky! I feel so fortunate that I still have some time with my mom, that I can touch people's lives with my work and that I live with more of a positive outlook than a negative one. When You Lose Someone Who Loves You

As you know I deal a lot with people who lose someone they love and the heartache the goes along with "the end" of their life with someone. I have walked away from people I've loved and there have been people who have walked away from me. I know the pain of experiencing both sides of the equation. But the one thing that all of these endings have in common is that ultimately someone stopped loving the other person.

Okay, well maybe they still have love for you on some level but they clearly have changed their mind that you are not the person they want to share their lives with any longer. So then, let's say their "love level" changed. But when you lose someone who no longer loves you, what have your really lost?

I can hear the roar of the crowd coming at me. What have I really lost, you ask? Here are just some of the answers I can hear being shouted out at me: I've lost a lifetime of memories with this person. I've lost my life with them. I've lost my life as I know it. I've lost my self-esteem. I've lost my hopes and my dreams with this person. I've lost everything. I've lost the one person I love more than anything.

And yes, I agree. You have lost a lot and that is why it is so painful. Your loss can feel immeasurable and unbearable at times. It can feel overwhelming. But here is my point: love is the most precious gift you can give and receive and everyone deserves to have love and feel love and know love.

There isn't anything that can compare to loving and being loved by someone. I mean truly loved. There isn't anything as wonderful and soul-filling as unconditional love. And that is exactly what you deserve and what we all need. But when you love someone and you aren't being loved back, and this is your life partner? What is this relationship? What do you call that?

Remember, I don't typically deal with people who are experiencing the normal ups and downs that come along in all relationships. That is for relationship counselors. I'm talking about after you've tried everything you know short of doing somersaults down Main St. to make this love work. I'm talking about "the end" when the love is gone and it is over. And no amount of hoping, wishing and praying that they change their mind is going to change a thing. You don't want to believe that they don't love you anymore.

So again, I ask you; if you lose someone who doesn't love you, what have you lost?

But now let me dig down deeper and ask you, what have you gained? First of all, you walk away with a text book of life lessons. You walk away with memories that serve you and those that can be tossed aside. You may walk away with being blessed with children that will continue to bless you for a lifetime. You walk away with the strength and character that is built by going through adversity. But more than anything else you are released from not being loved to being able to find the kind of love you so richly deserve.

I was thinking about all of this because of my mom. I was thinking how I have cried over my own losses in past relationships and how I've helped others through their pain of losing someone they loved. But I stopped and thought to myself, what did I really lose? Someone who didn't love me? Is that really a loss? Is it? When you take the emotion out of it and think about it, when you lose someone that didn't love you, what have you lost?

But by feeling what it is like to actually lose someone who loves you is the greatest heartache of all. In a way, it is selfish. I laugh because I don't want to lose someone who loves me so much and be left alone to find the maybes.

There is no more solid foundation of being loved by someone, especially a mother. The sense of security and having a safe place to totally be your self is a gift. Being loved unconditionally is freeing. But even though there is loss and as I said it is the greatest loss of all, what you take away is far greater than the loss.

You take with you the gift they've imparted to you; of knowing how to love and the feeling of being loved back, which is the greatest gift of all. You take away how they have made you a better person by knowing them. And, you take away a lifetime of memories that will sustain you throughout the rest of your life.

But more than anything else you take with you one soul being felt by another which is love in its most pure form. I am who I am because of the love I have known by someone who truly loves me. And for that I will be forever grateful. My greatest wish for you is to know this kind of love.

Are We Journeying Down The Wrong Path?

Would you agree most people want to be successful and therefore most people are chasing success? Look in the dictionary for the definition of success. Success is simply a measure of the degree to which an individual or group accomplishes an aim.

But this does not measure the joy, the contentment, the satisfaction or the blissful happiness of the individual or group in the pursuit of that aim.

The whole purpose of our lives is to discover what fulfills us and do it. It's why we're here.

Success is mostly measured against individual tasks or aims and not as a collective whole. People can have a successful career or business yet may be working 80 hours per week and be fed up to the back teeth and unhappy with what they are doing.

Further, even if their career or business is successful and they do gain meaning and pleasure from this undertaking, other areas of their life such as relationships or health and well being may be desperately neglected and in need of lifting. Fulfillment to me encompasses every facet of an individual's life.

To measure life in terms of how fulfilled an individual is, to me is far more meaningful. Living a life of fulfillment as I express it here means to live your life at a level to which it offers you satisfaction, contentment, gratitude and feelings of deep joy and appreciation. How many of us can say with complete honesty we are grateful for every aspect of our life?

All too often seemingly "successful people" tragically go down a variety of avenues of "pain relief," in whatever form that might take, in order to try and eliminate the discontent in their lives. This would certainly not be the case if their lives were fulfilling them.

To lead and live a fulfilling life should be the aim of each of us. It is the sole reason for each of us to be present here on this earth, yet all too often this gets lost. It is the birthright of every single one of us on the planet to lead a fulfilling life. And believe it or not it is actually easily attainable by every single one of us. It's just that we go through our lives falsely believing success will bring us happiness.

Spend some time doing something that fulfills you - you'll be amazed how you will feel.

I was compelled to write this article after a comment I received. In a blog I wrote I was talking about being thankful for our blessings. I mentioned that we should be grateful for the many things that we often take for granted; the ability to walk, to talk and see, our health and people we love etc. I couldn't possibly list them all!

As you can imagine, being in the business to inspire and encourage people to live a better life that last thing I would intend is to ever make anyone feel bad. But, for some reason this came across the wrong way and it offended this person because they had a physical disability.

The reality is we all have disabilities in our lives but that doesn't mean that we can't go on to have a great life. We can overcome our struggles regardless of what they are.

There are people who have physical disabilities that you can see with your eyes. And, then there are disabilities that you can't see on the outside. But what goes on inside of a person can be debilitating to fully living a life with joy, peace and happiness.

Some people may be able to walk but they go nowhere because they are crippled by their fears. Some people can see but they are blinded by their emotions and beliefs. Some people can hear, but they never really listen.

And then there are people who may be blind but they can see the beauty that shines from the soul. They may not be able to hear but in their silence they are closer to God. They may not be able to walk but they are further in their spiritual journey than many.

It is when we overcome our disabilities, when we struggle through our impairments and come through our adversities; it not only makes us become are true authentic self, but once we move beyond what imprisons us, whether seen or unseen, that is the light within that shines the way on our path in life.

So, I try and keep my mind focused on my blessings to make my struggles less powerful. I try and stay in a place of being thankful when I want to moan and complain and I try and be a light to others when they feel darkness surrounds them.

We all have our dis-abilities, but once conquered; it gives us the ability to fully live, laugh and love!

How Do You Cope With Loss?

Everyone single person that faces loss deals with it differently. There is no right or wrong way; there is only your way. And your way will look and feel different on many levels than the person beside you. So don't ever feel bad for feeling bad and allow yourself the time to move through the process the way that is right for you.

Now that being said, there does come a time when grieving over someone or something can become unhealthy and that is when you hold onto the grief and allow it to consume you. But there is no rule other than every loss is accompanied by growth of some kind.

Of course you know that the most recent loss and the most difficult loss for me has been losing my mother. But you also know that I, like you, have had many losses in my life. I've lost a six figure job, best friends have come and gone in my life, expensive jewelry, I've lost relationships because of betrayal.

What have you lost? Some people lose everything, their homes, their families and some lose the ultimate loss of all, a child.

As you can imagine because this is so fresh in my mind I have been quite introspective and contemplating the meaning of loss. I'm sure that this is just the beginning of a long process to unravel my thoughts and feelings but what I have already come to know is that ultimately what I have gained is far greater than my loss. And, what I have gained will live in me forever and it is also something that we can never lose and that is, love.

We can lose material possessions and the people we love but we will never lose the greatest gift of all and that is what lives inside you. Too often we look outside of ourselves for people and things to complete us, to make our lives better. Ironically you have to look no further than your soul or spirit which lives within you.

I have also come to understand that as much as I wished my mom could live forever, I now know she was simply on loan to me and her work is now complete. And coming to terms with that is one of the lessons of life. Although she is not physically here her love, joy and spirit is still with us.

The gifts that each relationship we have brings to us are part of our life lesson's. Too often we overlook the lesson's because our emotions, bitterness and anger blind us to what there is to learn.

So no matter what is going on in your life right now that you feel you can't get over, not only will you heal but hopefully you will learn from it as well. And, because we know that the only thing permanent in life is change, look at the people that you still have in your life and celebrate them being with you. Let them know how much you love them and how important they are to you and appreciate the gifts that God gives you that will live in your hearts forever.

In my opinion, it is not about what we accumulate along the way in possessions and status it is about how we loved that matters the most. When you give love unconditionally, you give a gift that will last forever.

Are We Losing Our Direction In Life?

It seems hard to believe, but these days in our modern, more advantageous, fast-paced, gadget-rich, opportunity-abounding lives, something is more profoundly lacking than ever. Fulfillment in our lives, where has it gone?

Not that long ago we would return home from a satisfying days work - eat a healthy home-cooked meal and have some conversation. Now, it is toxic take-aways, trashy TV, text and Twitter!

What to me is even more disturbing is that we are, I was going to say slowly sinking, but it is not slow - we are sinking under a tsunami of anti-depressants and other mood stabilizers!

We are told we have never had it so good - yet statistics show over the last 50 years, the level of happiness experienced by people throughout the world has actually fallen. How can that be?

We are wealthier, we have more toys available to acquire, but we are no happier. Depression and suicide are rising at an alarming rate. Survey upon survey shows stress as the number one health concern in our modern western lifestyle.

Depression currently ranks second in the category of most debilitating diseases worldwide in the age group 14 - 44. (The reason stress does not rank is that it is not classified as a debilitating disease). Wow, that is fortunate!

In the next 10 to 12 years, depression is predicted to rank the second most debilitating disease worldwide for ALL ages. How can this be when supposedly we have "never had it so good?" We have more psychiatrists in more countries throughout the world, prescribing more pills than at any time in the history of the human race.

I believe it is time we rediscovered the fulfillment we once had in our lives.

Too often, people the world over are desperately chasing riches and success to the detriment of the other areas in their lives in the false belief this will ultimately bring them happiness and fulfillment. This is insane. It won't - it can't possibly. This strategy is flawed and will almost always ultimately leave the individual deprived of fulfillment.

"People want riches; they need fulfillment," was a quotation by Robert Conklin. Tony Robbins says, "Success without fulfillment is failure." And believe me, you can be hugely successful without being fulfilled one iota. What is the point!

Success on its own simply allows one to experience sadness in style!

Success does not necessarily birth fulfillment, but fulfillment will always birth success. We need to approach our lives differently.

The quality of our lives is determined by what occupies our minds.

Success comes in all shapes and sizes. You don't have to be named CEO to justify a celebration. Something as simple as getting the big business report done is a great reason to pat yourself on the back and celebrate with family or friends.
