Enjoy a Quiet Evening - Here's How

Copyright (c) 2012 Carol Sheppard

Sometimes in the rush and daily grind we forget to take a moment for ourselves. We fail to pause, breath, wind down, and just relax. This causes us to always be on edge, stressed, and anxious. This not only cause emotional turmoil, but also physical ailments. So, before you rush home at the end of the work day, wolf down your frozen dinner, use the shower like a car wash, and then scramble into bed popping some sleep medicine - stop! Take a moment for yourself. And if you need help figuring out how to do so, no worries, we've got you covered.

Don't rush. Sure, the work day is over and you're eager to be home, but don't rush. Take your time; avoid the common road rage by breathing. Before you even start your car at the end of the day, take a deep breath and wash away the stress from the day. You can avoid a lot of trouble, and possible car accidents, by just taking your time and relaxing.

Enjoy and savor your meal. Often times we wolf down our meals in front of the television, quick to move on to the next activity we have planned. This is a great way to finish your meal quickly, but it's also a great way to pack on the pounds and contribute to your stress. When it's time for dinner, focus solely on dinner. Cook yourself something healthy. Take the time to savor the meal with all your senses. Smell the seasoning. Explore the variety in colors. Enjoy the texture of the meal. And remember to taste each bite.

Take a "spa" bath. Instead of using your shower like a car wash, opt for a bath if you have the option. Use a sugar or salt scrub. Light some scented candles to illuminate the room with, opting for the natural light over the harshness of fluorescent light. Take your time and sink into the tub, allowing the warmth of the water to hug you. And once you have completed your bath, use lotion to nourish your skin. Many candles are made of soy, and have the added benefit of being used as a lotion once melted. This is a perfect compliment, and the warm lotion will soothe your skin. Use the fluffy fancy towel reserved for guests.

Turn off the electronics. At the end of the day, before you crawl into bed, turn off the electronics. This includes the television, radio, and computer. Set these items to the side, and wind down from the daily use of these items. Invest in some great sheets, and pillows. Put on the "good" pajamas, and slowly get into bed. Keep your mind clear; bedtime is not the time to worry about your daily encounters. You can approach those tomorrow, when you're relaxed and ready to take on the day.
