How Do You Control Anger?

Anger usually stems from impatience. Trying to learn to be a bit more patient will help you in many areas of your life. But first let us look at some of the causes of anger and impatience.

Why is everyone so impatient and angry lately? It seems that nobody has any tolerance anymore. Just take a look around you. If it isn't road rage, then it is just the general aggressiveness of people around us and it just seems to be getting worse.

With all the advances in technology, we want everything to work quickly and efficiently and with no problems. The instant results we get from this technology have increased our appetite for instant gratification in other aspects of our lives. We aren't willing to wait in line for anything. Unfortunately, impatience has its downside in more ways than one. It can even cause us harm.

Impatience can cause anger issues. If for instance you were driving behind a slow vehicle, how many people will risk their lives passing, rather than wait until they are absolutely certain that it is safe to do so. Impatient people often make unsafe choices and bad decisions.

By this point, you have learned that debt is not only a reflection of the state of your finances but also a peek into your state of mind. As mentioned previously, step number one is to purge yourself of things that no longer fit you on all levels of mind, body, and spirit. No more negative thinking, no more denying yourself exercise, and no more allowing mental or physical clutter to stress you out.

In step two, you need to identify what your highest values are and write them down. What values should take precedence in your life? I hope you don't need me to spell them out, but most people do so I'll give you some hints. They are, in a nutshell: health, family, fun, and creativity, just to name a few. It is essential that you coordinate your values with the way you spend your money, time, and energy.

How do you spend your time? Who and what are you spending your time and energy on? Where do you contribute your material resources (i.e., your money)?

For instance, suppose you get a luxurious, extravagant spa treatment on a weekly basis. When you need a vacation or an emergency happens, will you have the resources you need to travel or meet unexpected expenses? You don't have the money to participate in those family vacations, birthdays, or holidays. You know that's what you value, so allot money and time towards that goal. What, then, is the solution? I'm not saying you can't have your spa day, but you might consider scaling back your spa day. For example, you could switch to getting an hour-long massage once a month instead of once a week. It becomes really easy to make wise and prosperous choices when you know what your values really are.

If you think about what is incongruent in your life, you will find places where your time and money go down the drain. Consider what is most important to you. I was a guest speaker on a radio show once and the host provided an excellent example of this idea; every Christmas, her husband gives her and her daughter a spa day. This is a great illustration of how you can match your time, money, and values. She is spending time with family and doing something that is healthy for her and her daughter.

Take a moment to inventory what is most meaningful to you. Be honest with yourself and identify whether or not the ways you spend your time and money line up with your values. I want you to ask yourself if what you're doing right now is healthy for you and your prosperity. Prosperity isn't money-based. It's about living for your highest good. Mind Poop

You've probably heard the phrase, "He'll get over it."

It's usually said after someone has been hurt by a statement. The person who said it will rationalize, "They'll get over it."

But will they?

For decades now, I've been doing my best to encourage people to go for their dreams. When someone says they have a desire to do something -- whether enter a contest or work toward a degree or open a business or write a book -- my general default setting is to urge them on.

After all, neither you or I can predict the future of anyone's success or failure. It makes far more sense to me to be optimistic and urge them to go for it.

So you can imagine my shock when I hear people put their own family and friends down, or dissuade their dreams. It seems like the most unloving thing to do.

Yet they do it.

Why?

I know some people rationalize their own behavior with statements like, "I was just being honest" or "He needs to face reality" or the infamous "She'll get over it."

But are any of those statements actually true?

My bet is this: the people saying the negative, limiting, degrading or harmful statements have convinced themselves they are doing it for the good of others, when in fact they are doing it to stroke their own egos.

Why would anybody do any of this?

It's unconscious programming.

It's ego.

No one that I know purposely wants to hurt anyone, but they still do it, not knowing they are and somehow convincing themselves otherwise.

I think it's time to awaken.

When a flower wants to bloom, water it.

Language is so revealing. When someone says, "I like your ideas. I'll see if I can find your books," they are actually never going to read the books.

How do I know?

The wimpy phrase "I'll see if" signals they aren't committed.

When someone says, "I'll try that," they most likely will never try it.

Why?

Saying "I'll try" doesn't have any commitment.

When someone says, "I have to be honest with you," they are often actually saying they are going to hurt you but they are hiding their dagger behind the word "honest."

In reality, there is honesty that helps, and honesty that hurts.

Any statement can be phrased to be soft and loving, or hard and unloving. There's always a choice.

And so it goes.

Here's what I suggest:

Really be on alert to the language people use when speaking to you. When someone signals they are about to hurt you or your dreams, brace yourself, run away, defend yourself, or escape. These are the people who convinced themselves they are doing this "for your own good" and if they hurt you in the process, "you'll get over it."

"ANY FOOL CAN CRITICIZE, CONDEMN, AND COMPLAIN BUT IT TAKES CHARACTER AND SELF CONTROL TO BE UNDERSTANDING AND FORGIVING." -DALE CARNEGIE

Be on alert to your own language, too. Pay attention to your use of wimpy phrases that reveal lack of commitment or true desire. What you speak reflects what you think, and generally comes about.

A friend once told me, "If a person came into your home, dropped their pants, and took a dump on your floor, you'd have a fit. You wouldn't allow it. Yet that's exactly what people do when they say negative things: They crap in your head!"

In other words, we have to watch out for crappy language.

People raining on your parade are pooping in your head. Don't allow it.

When you say something negative or unsporting to yourself, you are pooping in your own head. Don't do it.

This post is a reminder to watch where you poop.

PS -- I'm not dismissing helpful advice that you seek out, and that comes from people successful in the field you are asking about. In other words, if you're seeking wealth insights, ask a wealthy person. If you're seeking dating advice, ask a dating expert with a track record for success. But people just randomly stating their negative opinions, coming from no experience in your desired dream, are probably a waste of time. Don't let them poop in your head.

Women Gaining Self Confidence Empowers Both Genders

In recent times, men and women have moved closer to achieving equality, so it can be frustrating for men to see women being given help on issues that men face alone every day. However, it is important to remember that empowering one group creates a ripple through society that can benefit everyone. A lot of the progress which at first seems gender specific has made the world better for men as well. With women gaining self confidence, roles which were traditionally male can now be taken on by either gender.

The most relevant examples are in dating. Women have only recently become confident enough in their social status to make the first move in a relationship. Until recently, it was social law that the man must be the initiator in a relationship. Many men do not have any desire to take on that role, and many women have no desire to date an overconfident man. With progressive gender roles, a girl can ask out a boy, bringing good matches together regardless of who makes the first move. This takes the pressure off men, leaving them free to act more naturally with women and interact as friends.

The dating scene has also changed far beyond the first invitation. It used to be (as recently as 15 years ago) that dating was a traditional courtship. In traditional dating, the man handles all details of the date, including planning and paying for everything. Though men still pay for most dates, the pressure to show off status and wealth has decreased. With men and women on equal footing as far as expectation of having a job, the woman is no longer waiting to be wooed by the promise of stability or the wealth of her date. Instead, both genders expect to eventually contribute equally to the relationship, making the search more genuine in terms of looking for a true partner. This means less pressure on the man, and no stigma associated with a cheap or even free date. These days a walk in the park and cup of coffee is considered sweet, while a formal dinner in an expensive restaurant is "trying too hard."

After marriage, a woman used to become dependent on her husband if they could afford it. Now, if both partners make decent money, they can plan for an early retirement together instead of one staying home while the other works his entire life away. Some couples choose to work shorter hours, increasing the time spent together. A double income allows fathers to see children more often and feel a part of the family.

It used to be that a father's paycheck was how he showed love to his family. Before women became accepted in the workforce, a husband had to work or the family would starve. If his job required moving hours away and only seeing the family on weekends, that is what he did. It is still easy to see this in cultures where gender roles are more pronounced and is a permanent situation for many families.

For men who want the freedom to be themselves during courtship, or value spending time with a spouse or children, women's rights have been hugely beneficial. Women can take on traditionally male roles, meaning that men are free not to take them on. Men and women move forward in partnership; anything that benefits one gender ultimately benefits both.
