Following Your Heart

The most important organ in the entire human body is the heart. It is responsible for life. With every beat, life-giving blood is brought to every cell. You can survive with a barely-functioning brain, as near-death humans are most often brain dead, but one cannot continue life without a heartbeat.

It is ironic that on top of all the heart's biological importance, it is also credited for human emotions. One's attitude or reaction to anything in life is influenced by how fast or faint the heart beats. Humans feel it in their heart when they are doing right or otherwise. Somehow, happiness and fulfilment is something you feel in "your chest," and so, because of this, we collectively think that it is our heart that rules our humanness.

Throughout life, a person is in the middle of a never-ending search for meaning, for purpose, for happiness. Our heart hopefully leads us to the right direction, so how do we tell if what we feel will bring us to our much-coveted fulfilled life?

We need to make sure our heart is in the right path. Is it telling us to do the correct thing, or does our own heart lead us astray? Sometimes, not everything we want is good. To set a balance, seek guidance through faith. Meditate and think if your emotions are influenced by negativity. If you feel that it is, then quickly reset your heart towards the right direction.

Trust that instinct. Even animals have instincts, but as humans, we have a highly-developed innate sense of right and wrong. Doing what is right gives us deep satisfaction - thus making living not just something we need to do, but something we need to do WELL.

When you follow your heart, there is an internal voice that dictates and rules over your actions. When you know you've followed the inner voice, it becomes hard to understand, but happiness and fulfilment follow. There is an unexplainable feeling of satisfaction when you know you let your heart rule over the more rational factors that affect your decisions. The key is to develop the courage to follow your heart, because most often, following your heart and dreams entails making irrational decisions.

Take the time to sit back and think, have you let your heart rule over your life? Have you followed the instincts that made you happy? If you did, you will slowly realize that you are living a full life - a life full of happiness that you achieved by living life according to what is right, according to what feels good, and according to how you want to go about life..
