The Things Succesful People Do

Success does not come by accident - you have to work hard to have it. Sometimes, we find ourselves envying those whose ride to the top was relatively easier. We work like horses, and yet some people still earn more money to enjoy not just the basics in life, but to savour the best things money can buy. What are the secrets of successful people? How can you emulate their success? Here is a list of things which may have propelled them to the top:

Successful people have clear goals. Early on in their careers, successful people sat down and listed the things that would make them happy - and resolved to attain them. A goal is a reason for being. A person with no clear goal is like a bus driver with no route - their trips are pointless. Knowing what you want helps in planning the proper course of action to take in order to get to your destination. People with goals also know when "the moment" is there - thus enabling themselves to seize the opportunity when they come faced-to-face with it.

Successful people are full of optimism. They don't have room in their minds for fear or doubt. Even in the worse of situations, their belief in themselves is unwavering. Their faith is unbreakable.

Successful people study their craft. They are not complacent. They work on how not to be just good - they work to be better. Those employees who work through their lunch breaks despite the fact that their successful peers don't - what's up with that? Well, working long and hard on something does not necessarily mean that you produce better results. It only means that you are slow - which is why you cannot accomplish in 8 hours what a successful colleague can in 7.

Another point: successful people constantly try to find ways to enhance their output, while most unsuccessful ones always wait for directions from their superiors, or simply stick with what they are given. Imagine doing the same duty over and over again for 20 years? Well, that only means that you are forced to work on one lone task either because your boss does not trust you with new duties, or that it means that you have never been promoted even once in your entire 20-year-stint in the company.

Successful people FOCUS on their task. Rather than spend idle hours playing solitaire, successful people try to keep their eye on the task and don't spent time on distractions. When you focus, ideas are clearer, and concentration is at its highest. The direct effect of this is a job completed well above the expected. You set the bar high, and always strive to go even higher.

Successful people have perseverance. Despite setbacks, they find ways to rise above them. In fact, they use these challenges to develop a better work attitude. They see each hurdle as a chance to improve. They feed on trials - and do not lose their willpower even if things are difficult.

So how many of these traits do you possess? If you have only one, well, then it's time to stop wondering why your officemate was promoted first. Work on improvement - because there's always a chance to do better.
