Finding Passion In The Pursuit Of Life Goals

Imagine if all we ever did was sit around, hope that something good happens, and go about this routine for our entire life? Wouldn't that be a useless, pointless way of wasting the life given us?

Whether we admit it or not, we all need to have something to work for, something to strive for, something to be passionate about - to jolt us out of the complacency of day to day living.

How, then can we find the passion needed to pursue the goals we planned on achieving?

First, determine what your goals are.

When you make a list of goals, make sure they are YOURS - and not the things other people want you to achieve. My father wanted me to be a banker, and for ten years, I made him happy - even if it meant sacrificing my happiness. Each day was pure sacrifice, and I felt so frustrated.

The point is - pursue YOUR OWN dreams - and not the dreams of the people you love. If your parents or other important people want you to experience fulfillment, you must learn to say no. Determine when to stop being a disciple, and to start being the leader of your own destiny.

Next, know how to focus on the goal, and prioritize tasks that lead you closer to your goals. This would also mean that you must spend less time doing the things that lead you astray from what you have set out to do.

It is a fact of life that we have so many chores and tasks. We spend a great deal of time each day so engrossed in doing them - that we eventually forget to work towards our ultimate dreams.

Example - you want to be a world-class singer, but singing alone does not put food on the table… so you need to work on other unrelated jobs to be able to afford the singing lessons. You wait tables in the mornings, bag groceries in the afternoons just to earn the money necessary for the night time voice lessons. Despite all the distractions, use the ultimate prize - the prospect of eventually earning a living as a singer - to inspire you to work better at your two other jobs. Remember, they are the means towards your dreams. So focus, prioritize.

Last, find a way to integrate your goals with your priorities. Only until you strike the proper balance between your dreams and reality will you be successful. Did you forget about your obligations, like family and love, in your desire to attain your goal?

Or did you forget your goal because you were too engrossed with your family and career?

In the realization of your goal, make it a point to leave positive impressions on the people surrounding you. Nobody appreciates a selfish person. You may be the most accomplished, the richest, the most famous… but if you have no one to share these accomplishments with, then you will never be as fulfilled as you aim to be.

Final point, reassess your life. Determine what point you're at.

If you are at the crossroads, stand back and think - what have I done so far towards the realization of my goal? Have I started my journey, or did I merely plan and put these plans in the back burner?

One good way to assess your standing is to think, "If I were to die in a week's time, what is it about myself that is worth mentioning in my eulogy?" What would people remember about me? Would people say that I was a person who achieved so much during my short life, or was I a person who made no notable mark during my existence?

When you have thought about the answers to these questions, think about the ways you could have improved the journey towards your goal. Visualize the perfect path, and re-align your destiny. Pursue the dream passionately.

Achieving fullness of life is in our own hands. We can choose to just sit back and dream, but we can also work towards our dreams and goals. So enjoy the long trip towards your goals, because sometimes, the path towards the end is more exciting and fulfilling than finally attaining your dream.
