Thinking About Dieting - The Beverly Hills Diet

There is no danger in reading about diets. But please, do not undertake any diet without discussing its pros and cons with a qualified health care professional. You can really harm yourself if you don't take proper precautions. And don't expect to lose pound after pound quickly and effortlessly. Keeping these precautions in mind you are now ready to consider the Beverly Hills Diet.

The Beverly Hills Diet is also known as the Hollywood Diet because many movie stars are said to follow it. This diet lasts 4 to 6 weeks during which some are said to lose 7 to 9 kilograms (about 15 to 20 pounds). Dieters are restricted to 400 calories a day, which would stop me from continuing despite whatever the stars do. The initial phase lasts for three weeks. During the first week you only eat fruit and must absolutely respect the selected foods for the given day. This is a detoxification week. During the next two weeks you progressively reintegrate foods. The second phase lasts two weeks and leads to a balanced diet. The final phase lasts for one week when you are even allowed pizza and popcorn provided that you don't overdo overindulge. Here are some of Beverly Hills Diet principles.

Fully respect the given menus. During Phase 1 every day has its own specified food or fruits. For example, the very first day of the diet you are allowed pineapple and two bananas. On the third day of week three you eat zucchini in the morning, green beans and mushrooms at noon, and broccoli or cauliflower at supper. Phase 2 is also very strictly defined. For example, start the day off with two tablespoons of untreated bran and an unsweetened hot drink. Then wait for 45 minutes before your breakfast. You'll need a book to get the full list of foods, day by day.

Despite its name the Hollywood Diet has no advantages, except for some people the fact that they are following their idols. Another disadvantage in my book: this diet makes no room for wine. Absolutely do not follow this diet should if you suffer from diabetes, ulcers, or colon spasms. Others who must stay away include pregnant and breastfeeding women. There is a danger of fainting, muscular weakness, and nervousness.

Here is a sample menu: Menu 1 (Week 4, Day 1) Breakfast: Three kiwis. The mid-morning snack consists of two apples. Lunch: A hamburger with ketchup and mayonnaise. Supper is a halibut steak.

A quick search on Amazon revealed lots of Beverly Hills Diet books. You can go classical for over $60 or get more modern versions in a much lower price range.
